This season we have a tremendous attacking threat, if we can get them working well together....just think how many we will score, my prediction is....
Ruud 35
Saha 20
Smith 17
Scholes 16
Rooney 21
Ronaldo 10
Giggs 6
Keano 2
Kleberson 4
DEFENDERS: 7
that totals......131 goals :D ....of course this might be a little bold, but hey it surely is possible, especially if we pick up the pace on how were playing!

IMO Van Nistelrooy and Rooney can score 35 and 21 goals respectively but not this season because they will miss 1 1/2 months (+ 10 matches) barring further injuries. Regarding Smith and Saha they have the ability to score about 20 goals a season but it depends on which position they play and the playing time they will get. Agree with you with the remaining players.

Ruud 28
Saha 16
Smith 14
Scholes 14
Rooney 14
Ronaldo 8 (15+assists)
Giggs 6
Keano 2
Kleberson 4
DEFENDERS: 7

Thats more like it to me...

Of course this is just an evaluation of what I think is possible... not set in stone... you see the disclaimer is necessary to ward off evil spirits (Zani etc.)

I have to agree that this is far more reasonable for where we are in this season. Though 7 goals from the defenders sounds like a lot. I am thinking more in the range of 4-5. Though that can change depending on how Rio looks coming back and how well Heinze adapts to the team and the EPL.m If they both do well I think that 7 goal level is very attainable.

in all competitions or just the EPL?

with 4 capable strickers and a rotation system i think RVN is the only one that will exceed 20 goals.(if its only EPL)

I think its going to be fewer goals for each striker - remember: there is a rotation system ideally for all competitions (to a certain degree).

Ruud 24
Saha 16
Smith 14
Rooney 11
Ronaldo 9
Scholes 8
Giggs 8
Bellion 6
Kleberson 4
Keano 2
DEFENDERS: 6
og: 2

All in all I've got 110 goals for 2004-2005 in all competitions...

1999-2000: 118 goals in all competitions
2000-2001: 107 goals in all competitions
2001-2002: 121 goals in all competitions
2002-2003: 130 goals in all competitions
2003-2004: 97 goals in all competitions

I predict just 2 goals, Smith and Rooney versus Arsenal, a 2-1win of course.

Excellent post, good assesment and thanks for the tallies from previous seasons... you see defense is really the best offense and not the other way around... what was weakest last season? Although I think 110 is completely reasonable for this year, I would hope for a few more, I mean, we were not really an offensive juggernaut in 02-03 but we got 130... we need to get back to that level... Rooney playing as a second striker/attacking midfielder will be key to that I feel... but the most telling player in terms of high goal tallies will be Ruud and after him Ronaldo, in creating the scoring chances...

Wow..you guys are really confident about Ruud.

Wow..you guys are really confident about Ruud.

look at his bloody scoring record... its not confidence, if anything we are understating what he will likely score... give him 50 appearances and he nets 30... that's pretty much what he has done in the past... and with our impoved service from Ronaldo and Rooney he should thrive...

I am, yes. You feel there are reasons not to be?

Here's the breakdown:

2001-2002: 35 goals in all competitions (43 appearances)
2002-2003: 44 goals in all competitions (51 appearances)
2003-2004: 30 goals in all competitions (41 appearances)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Total: 109 goals in 135 games for an average strike rate of 0.81 goals per appearance.

I'm saying that he'll score fewer this season than he has ever before (6 fewer, to be exact) because I realize that missing +-10 games to start the season cannot help your chances/form and he'll be partnered w/ Smith up top who'll get his chances.

This matches up with as good as there ever has been over three seasons for strike rate/goal production. The only person w/ more contribution over the past three years (oh I hate to derail this thread so I won't)... Nevermind.

Ruud is one of the best there is, no doubt about that. As good as owen is, Real wanted Ruud more. His scoring record speaks for himself, he has performed and dominated in the CL, EPL, and internationally. He'll be back with a vengence i think when he is healthy again.

How can SirManchester say that we are confident on Ruud?! The guy is an absolute machine. Just look at how many goals he has scored since he was at Man UTd. One of the best in the business!

This thread needs a bump...

I would just like to congratulate us all for saying the defenders would get 6-7 goals because so far they already have 3... Silvestre's two and Heinze as well.

At this stage BT looks to have made the best prediction so far... Bellion has scored and I did not pick him to... and Rooney still has not played a game... although Ronaldo could easily have 3 now, but I still feel he will hit his mark of 8 or 9. I will try not to forget this thread, we should look at it every month.

It's 2 for Giggs. One against Dinamo Bucharest and the other against Fenerbahce.

"I didn't know about the statistic of only nine goals in nine games until somebody told me but it would be a concern," said Ferguson after his side clocked up a fifth league draw.

I read this comment from Alex this morning. How are we going to correct the goal scoring problem if the manager doesn't even know we have one?

You really wonder about Fergie. On the one hand, his teams have just been so good in the past. On the other, they look so goddamn incompetent now. What's happened? What's changed? Has he lost his tactical acumen? Does he just no longer know how to scout talent? Is it the age? What's wrong with the man?
