SAFE STRIKER.. MAXIMUM SECU-ROO-TY

Sep 7 2004

EXCLUSIVE

By Brian Roberts

WAYNE Rooney has been given 24-hour security after getting threats over his £25million move to Manchester United.

Worried bosses at Old Trafford hired an SAS-style personal minder for the 18-year-old striker when police told them he and his family were targets for attacks - including one plot to petrol bomb his car.

And detectives have given Rooney Category 1 status, meaning units will be dispatched immediately if he or his bodyguard call with a problem.

As well as threats from bitter fans angry at his move to rivals United, Liverpool gangsters are also reported to want revenge on the star after losing around £750,000 bets in the Far East that he would stay at Everton.

A police source said: "All the information was assessed and believed to be credible.

"Intelligence has been received that shows a hard core of Everton supporters have become involved in plans to attack Rooney and possibly members of his immediate family who live in the Merseyside and Cheshire areas.

"Manchester United and Rooney's people have been advised that he should at all times be accompanied by a minder.

"Rooney will have to come to terms with the fact that he could be the victim of some kind of attack in the short term, but with the services of a good security professional this threat can be minimised.

"However he will still have to be very careful over the next few years."

Keeps our collective asses out of the fire because you can get in trouble with the Man for reprinting something instead of linking to the source.

Gotcha. Never had a problem with it before. I've posted quite alot of articles up, just surprising to see one get a reprimand after so long. *shrugs.

that's exactly what I said in another thread... he is so transparent... if (God forbid) there was another plane crash involving United players he would probably come here to celebrate...

You have to love the English...

Somebody must, they don't appear to love themselves!

There is passion for football, and then there is madness and mass histeria.
Is it possible to have one without the other?

I know the answers to England's problem: parity, single entity, no relegation. ;)

I notice that you don't have any Prem teams listed that you support. Please keep it that way...... ;)

Is there a specific problem with doing it, as long as a URL is included, or is it just the way you prefer to run things? I only ask because on a former message board, we had a national paper complain that we stole most of their hits by posting the entire article!
