Daniele De Rossi came into the international limelight thanks to a great goal scored against Norway last Saturday during the World Cup Qualifier match.
The young Roma midfielder has in fact caught the eyes of many scouts and in particular of the Manchester United ones who have decided to follow closely this Italian talent.

De Rossi's contract expires in 2006 and he has repeatedly stated that he wants to extend his stay with the giallorossi, however with Roma's current poor financial situation, if the Red Devils decide to make a move for this player, the midfielder might think twice before signing a contract extension with Voeller's side.

Apparently, Manchester United's interest is very much real as Sir alex Ferguson himself has expressed his wish in bringing De Rossi to Old Trafford as he sees him as the ideal successor to Roy Keane.

I have watched Daniele De Rossi over the past year and he was awesome for Roma last year in the midfield and was a major force for Italy's U-21 European success. He was also a key player in Italy's Olympic team which claimed the Bronze in Athens.

De Rossi also started his first game for the Italian National team on Saturday against Norway and scored in his debut and was one of the best players on the field. He is a tremendous talent, I beleive he is only 19 at the moment and if he was smart he would leave Roma for Man United just for the expose alone!

What position does he play in? I had always believed that it was defensive midfield, but another article about our interest stated that he was a winger. So what is he? The replacement for Keane or the replacement for Giggs?

He is a defensive midfielder with the potential to be a future replacement for Keane and apparently wants to extend his contract with Roma. He is young and has time to develop but probably not in time for Keane's retirement.

True he may not be ready by the time Keane is ready to retire, but its not like we don't have other players to fill the gap... I think he would be a great addition...

Hey if he is willing to come here we would be more than welcoming. I look at the young talent we have accumulated and think our future is very bright. Bringing in another high potential player, who plays a different position than the rest of the young bunch sould be great. Plus we have one Italian youngster to make him feel more at home.

He is not a defensive midfielder, he can play both the wing and central defender but is more forced to the ring because of Totti's positioning at Roma. De Rossi is now starting on the Italian National Team and will be a key offensive midfielder for Italy and Roma.

If Man United pickup De Rossi, you will not be disapointed.

Would someone please explain to me how we have two people on the board actively posting who have red cards? What's the friggin point of giving someone a red card if they can continue to post? My guess is that the only thing they can't do is start new threads...

Its not a red card... its poor reputation.. they have been neg. repped numerously... its not an official repremand but rather the opinions of other posters... when you have a red card it says so next to your name... RED CARD...

The confusion continues... So what side is he usually played on?

Find at a post by Acronym (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/member.php?userid=35560) and look just under his name. A red card appears in the same place. Sorry Acronym, you were an easy example! :D
