John O'Shea will miss Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Switzerland with a thigh injury.

The Manchester United defender has suffered a small tear in his thigh, after playing 83 minutes of Ireland's 3-0 victory over Cyprus on Saturday.

O'Shea underwent a scan on the injury on Sunday and it confirmed the extent of the injury.


John had a scan today which revealed a small tear to his lower thigh muscle, just above the knee," said Kerr.

"As there is too little time for him to recover before Wednesday's game, he will not travel to Switzerland with the squad."

O'Shea's club manager Sir Alex Ferguson will also be concerned about the full extent of the damage, as United prepare for the start of the UEFA Champions League group phase.

A small tear? The article does not make it seem like a big deal but a tear is never a good thing to have. Lets just hope Henize does not get hurt and he comes to ManUtd healthy from WCQ

:mad: International duty has just wrecked us. RVN probabley got hurt because he played too much this summer, Heinze has barely made it back from international duty, O'Shea is injured, Ronaldo needs a break, etc...

This is just the worst way to get the season going. Hopefully Portugal leave Ronaldo alone and we can get some other players back to health.

It sucks that Sheasy got hurt but it gives Spector some more time in the first team squad so lets hope he takes full advantage.
