Valecia starts their Champions League season vs Liverpool on Tues. I think Liverpool will win by a narrow margin. Any other thoughts?

Where is the game being played?

If in Valencia, Valencia wins.

If in Liverpool, a draw.

I already started a thread about this when the draw was made!

Look below.

The first game is in Spain.

I really hope El payaso Aimar wins the duel vs El Hadji Diouf!

Watch out for Baros, he made his debut and scored 2 goals on saturday. Owen was on the bench for the first time in how many seasons.

Baros will almost definitly start.

1-1 at Mestalla. Liverpool scores first, then late goal of Valencia to tie the game.

A little off topic but Valencia have had an impressive start in league play. 2 games, 5 goals for, 0 against. However, the two games were against pretty poor oposition. It will be interesting to see how they perform against a quality team.

Some factors I think are that Valencia is pretty tough at home and in general English teams have had tough times lately with Spanish clubs. The safe bet would be for a 1-0 victory for Valencia.

Valencia have gotten paired to Manchester in recent years, right? Which are the results of these games?

Those games with Man Utd all ended up in draws I believe.

PS: Good result for Racing today.

Man Utd beat Valenica 3-0 and drew the other game to both qualify. Valencia got to the final against Madrid.

Ah ok. I remember they did draw at Old Trafford once but that was probably the following season.

Obviously, I'd like to see Valencia win. After seeing the Newcastle-Liverpool match a couple of weeks ago, I must say that the 'Pudlians looked a little suspect on defense. Valencia is always strong on D and very tough at home.

Since this is the first game of the Champs League, both teams will be feeling each other out.

Valencia will win 1-0 or 2-0. Liverpool won't score.

I don't know enough about Spanish football to predict a result, but I love how you Spanish fans always feel that playing against English teams will be a walk in the park. Saying that Liverpool "won't score" is not anywhere near a safe bet, unless you guys expect Valencia to put 11 men behind the ball and defend the whole time. We'll have 2 strikers and 4 midfielders that will have the ability to score at any time from any angle.

Just a couple of quick points:

Liverpool's defence has been a little 'shaky' so far this season but make no mistake about it on their day they have the best defence in Europe.

As for Liverpool not scoring, don't put your house on it. Owen, Diouf, Baros, Heskey, Gerrard, Hamann and Riise can pounce at any time from anywhere as a previous poster said.

You forgot about Murphy and Hyypia (on corners, at least).

In the past 4 years an English opponent has been a walk in the park for the most part. There are some exceptions but the overall record of Spanish clubs against English clubs in the past 4 years is very good. The spanish club that has to worry is Deportivo because for the most part Spanish clubs have trouble with German ones.

Liverpool has a fine team but it will be an upset if they win at Mestalla. Even a draw will be a slight upset. The easiest prediction for this game is 1-0 for Valencia.
