For the love of all things good and right and true, do not let them name your team "Real Salt Lake" or "Real Lago de Sal" or anything like that.
Please. I can't control this, I am hoping those of you who live there can.
Use violence if necessary.

I agree, lets get real on this name Real Salt Lake. Be a club with your own identity and not one thats ripped off. It just makes MLS look that much more cheesy.

If a European flavor is wanted, why not take a page from the Bundesliga (Hannover 96, Schalke 04 and 1860 Munich) and use a number...how about Salt Lake 47, or 1847 Salt Lake?
1847, for those who don't know, was the year that the Mormon pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley.

Why don't they just go the whole nine yards?
... Real Big Salt Lake Screwed-up Riddle
Somebody stop these clowns from consistently perpetuating silliness and ridicule on MLS! What's so hard about SLC Highlanders, Salt Lake SC?

Salt Lake 04, or Utah 04 os ok, but NO NO NO Mormon connections!
1847 is fine for Mormons who live here, but there are quite a few of us who are NOT Mormon. No Offence for those of you who are of the faith, but this is a football team not marketing tool for the LDS church.
My vote (not that Mr. Checketts is reading): Salt Lake highlanders SC.

I do believe that those who are not decendants of Gold miners understand what 49er means to San Francisco. Same for 47, but I don't like the name. And how is it advertisement? "We came here in 1847, join our church," uh, ok, sounds good.
With that said I do feel any name that divides an already overly sensative area such as SLC (that goes for both sides) is a bad idea. I still like Wolves or Highlanders, or even Wanderers (though I can think of some soccer hating jokes with that name) if you really have to mike old world with new world. And would Donny Rumsfield want us mixing with old Europe or just new Europe?

The pioneers settled the state and began the heritage that is now integral to the state and especially Salt Lake City, so it's not a Mormon thing alone. It's more of a history of how our state began. But I agree no LDS connection in the name. If it was between SLC Saints and Real Salt Lake, I'd choose the latter for that reason. (That coming from someone active in the LDS church...)

I agree, however 1847 is a major part of LDS history and there is so much more to Utah.
Hopefully this will be the end of this subject, I apologize for opening the can o' worms.
Did anyone notice the brief snippet in the SL tribune today ? It mentioned the website www.realsaltlake.com. Coincidently, that website is no more.

Close can of worms, please.
Good pic up Utahfan on the website. Maybe Checketts has heard the voice of the people, or Real Madrid has pulled out (that would be a first).
