Sir who? I like to hear that. When it was Carlos to Chelsea you all agreed it would affect Bridge. Now what is the deal here?

I would like to see Billy's Irish face answering that.Glad to hear to enjoy my company so much there ZANI, how I really, really wish I could say the same for myself. Bridge already has backup in Celestine Babayaro (but of course, with your infinite knowledge of the sport, YOU already knew this). Infact, to revert back to that thread of 3 months ago, shouldn't Babayaro be considered a starter for Chelsea, since he has started on occasion? And by the way, incase you haven't noticed, fullbacks tend to not be involved in the game as much and thus do not need as much rest.

Are you missing a chromosome or something?I think the problem here is quite the opposite of him missing a chromosome, poor guy/girl/it probably has an extra one.

Good, and you need some comprehension classes.BWA HA HA!

HA HA HA HA HA.

HA HA HA HA.

HA HA HA HA HA.

HA HA HA.

HA... HA.

HA.

Suppose you are going to tell me I need some geography classes and need to stop using the Irish venacular, since we've never produced anybody of note in the literary field.

You make it sound like it is hurricane and sh!t. It is just soccer chatting, and where is Billy Ireland. He lied about Rooney playing sometime this month.Ssssshhhhh, ssshhh, it's alright little fella, I'm here, I'm here. It's going to be okay. Dry your eyes and change your nappy, you're ol enough to do it yourself these days.

Seriously man, do you whack off as you go through my posts, giving the tweezers an extra pull with each new word you read?

By the way, I said I thought Rooney would start this month, yes. It was my opinion. My opinion was wrong. There is a difference between being mistaken & lieing which you, through your seemingly infinite practice of both the former and the latter should by now have a firm and solid grasp of. So don't worry there ZANI, there's no need to act so betrayed - because this idol is for real! (good ol' puns)

In short I'll say a player of his caliber comes by once every 10-20 years. So we were fully justified in getting him and making our strike-force one of the best in Europe.

Keane I think does at least need a good backup, but Rooney was too good to pass up.
Precisely: while this leaves Man U's most obvious weakness throughout the midfield (Giggs, Keane, and Scholes are aging, and there are no OBVIOUS quality replacements for them and Ronaldo, leaving a lack of depth in terms of world-class quality -- lots of decent players fighting for the position, none that have risen to the quality level needed for a championship squad, or to be plausible starters), still, Rooney is the kind of player Man U is going to want in the years to come, and they needed to get him while he was available. They may not place higher than 3rd this year (but who knows), but they now have plenty of good, young(ish) players up front and in the back. Once they address depth in the midfield (which may sort out by the end of the season, or they can make more quality acquisitions to fill spots), they may be back to a true championship squad.

Why Ruud got so mad last season when he was benched? Do you think he will like that this season, with all these good strikers in other teams banging in goals? He wants to be the top striker in EPL. He was two seasons ago.

When was RvN benched other than for injury?

Edit: Doh! Forgot about the Dutch team.

We wanted Rooney? When was that?
As for Ronaldo, he was earmarked as a United target for a while. As for club with a soul......
No, it was Reyes you wanted, last year. He'd be on loan at Palace right now if that had happened.

You wouldn't take Gerrard because he's scouse. 'nuff said.

He's not the only one. Some of the regs feel the same way.

this is actually my first time seeing this thread, and i never noticed how old it was...

But Rooney is his own man. Anyone that says he is Pele, Maradona, etc...is biased. The kid is obviously great. Talented, and works hard, but sometimes you wonder. How can eveyrone else slate RVN, or anyone else on the team, but not even mention his name? He;s not perfect and he's still young but still has to get it, like the rest do.

He is not exempt from criticism. For one, i dont like how he tries to hard to woo the crowd, with neatly threaded passes attempted all the time. Sometimes, you just see him trying too hard. He thinks he is the greatest, and while its good to have that swagger, he needs to keep his feet on the ground, and his head cool.

I went to a couple of United Training sessions a this year and last year, and in practice, he doesnt do much right. He doesnt excel in the drills where your only allowed to take two touches. He isnt the fittest player around.

With all that said, he will be the world class. He does some amazing things, but you just want to see him do it right, without talking too much. You just hope his decision making improves with age. But at 20? the kid is phenominal.

Rooney has the potential to be our new Cantona.

I agree they go over the top on Match of the Day, but then in this world cup year compared to the other striking talent born in England ...

Rooney can't be under or over-rated yet. He has only been in a decent team for a year and a half :) He needs the test of time, but .... for me, he is definitely a class apart;

- incredible first touch

- incredible amount of power on his shots

- incredible awarness of where team-mates are

- incredible strength

- tough competitor

- decent in the air

- two good feet

- incredible balance, especially for a person with a scousers err ... body growth structure and nutritional inclinations ;)

- all the above in one player

I always thought that Rooney was a really really fit player. I mean he does a large amount of roaming and running so i always thought he's in really good shape. When i first heard about Rooney, i thought he was a brutish, ogre-type player whose strength was his main asset. As i've started watching him play more and more, my opinion of him has radically changed. His first touch is absolutely impeccable. He shoots very well from all distances; something else that i found very surprising about Rooney is his unbelievable pace. To be his size, Rooney covers a lot of ground very quickly. He's also an above average dribbler. I remember in a recent game against Villa, he picks up the ball near his own box and proceeds to beat about 4 players as he goes to the opposition box. He's an unbelievable talent.....i think i'm out of superlatives lol

The only thing about his fitness, is his endurance. And him being a forward gives him more time to rest than midfielders. During those trainign sessions, he kind of struggled to keep up with the team. Not all the time. Maybe its just that he cant be arsed. He does have some shocking pace, seeing as hes pretty big.

Wayne Rooney is vastly over-rated and over-valued. His game is more physical presence than skill. Tevez has more skill in his scar, than Rooney will ever possess. Man Utd should have spend the money on a replacement for Keane instead.
