Thanks.
My friend also suggested that it had something to do with the role of hip-hop (which is apparently big in Marseille, possibly due to the immigrant population?) in the city. And since hip-hop mostly grew out of America, that's where the influence came from.
Yup. I didn't mean to suggest otherwise. In fact I get the feeling that Marseille is somewhat like Barcelona - it represents a very strong regional (or this case, civic I guess) nationalism. Most people in Catalonia would consider themselves Catalans rather than Spanish; is it the same in Marseille (Marseille native before French native)?
Btw, what are the words the song from that clip?
Well if you count Provençal.............
Its pretty much an ubiquitous feeling throughout France. Marseillais /Parisien /Lyonnais and proud, usually France is subordiante.
By her great deeds, Marseilles shines in the world

Total blizzard at St. Etienne.....wow! I have never seen so much snow for a football match. Didn't know it snowed that much in France.

It doesn't. The weather has been crazy as hell this weekend.

I'm sorry, but The Beautiful Game was NOT ment to be played in snow! The pace and passing are totally removed. Watching this match was not very interesting.

I know I'm the minority on this forum with this thinking, but Marseille and PSG really should have their own forums.
ALLEZ individual club forums!

Barthez's near miss

See, I wasn't the only one who thought this match should have been postponed and rescheduled!

You can't be frustrated by them in 2005! I had a post like yours in 2004!
*What does everyone think about Barthez's Casablanca case, how it will be handled - and how's the new FFF president? Simonet just retired?
Yes I can be frustrated! I feel things unravelling... Uggg... Where was Battles on Sunday anyways?

It just seems to me that Battles has been excellent when he has had the opportunity to play. Why do they still bother with Cheyrou, total rubish.

I did see that and it was aweful. I couldn't tell at first if he thought there was a stoppage in play, but clearly he didn't. Yuk.

I love Marseille, a great souvenir! Last time we played them, in 2000 in French Cup we won 4-3 at Stade Velodrome after leading 4-0 :D
As for Nakata i think that Marseille took him in order to sell shirts

For those of you who live in New York (or will be traveling to New York sometime soon) and don't know about it, there is an Olympique de Marseille supporters club there. They get together to watch games (whenever they are on TV5 or Fox Sports World) at Nevada Smiths, on 3rd Avenue between 11th and 12th. At least 35 people come out for every game, with over 100 for the European games and those against PSG.
The OM-Lens match will be shown there live at 2pm on Saturday, March 12th.

CCS marseille NYC is an awesome club. I'm a member myself and must say that the gatherings are a blast. As close to being at the velodrome whilst in the USA. Chants are sung as we watch the matches, and the bar is decorated in the flags and colors of the club on matchdays.

Oh, things are falling apart.... I can see it now, OM finishing 4th. The new kid Barry, from the youth formation looked great, I'd like to see more of him. Luyindula needs to be sold, he's a bust. I did see Nakata complete his first forward pass for OM in the 66th minute to Barry. That guy is the worst passer I've ever seen. He's great at passing it back to Barthez though. Why did Troussier want to bring this guy to L'OM?

I don't think this was a catastrophe of a match. Are you the same person who wasn't happy with thier 2005 form in this thread? They're bounced back straight away from thier losses this year (2005) and there haven't been many at all!
Anyhow, I never thought we'd have to say this, but: I wonder if Marlet would have made a difference in this match!
