Saha set to start for France.

Smith and Gary Neville set to start for England.

Ronaldo looks likely to feature for Portugal (despite the Portugese doctor admitting that Ronaldo has a slight injury, Scolari will risk him anyways  )

And to keep us tied over until the other Internationals, here's a clip of Rossi's goal the other night for the Reserves: http://www.unitedrant.co.uk/images/rossigoal.mpa

He probably should have passed to his teammate at the upper left hand corner at the very beginning of the clip. But that's definitely a great individual effort.... truly amazing. How old is he again? 16?

But that's what you want from your forwards, the courage to take on the defense and make something out of nothing. Enjoy it for what it was...a great individual effort. Did you not see the defender tracking back as well as a bad angle it would have created?

Unbelievable goal!

What's his status for USMNT? I know he;'s played w/ Italian U19 but he was born in USA...

Did I forget to mention that he's predominantly left footed? :D

That is sick, but tell me this, how is his crossing? Its too early to say anything for sure, but maybe he could be our winger of the future, other than Ronaldo...

Lived in the US until he was 13, and AFAIK has never played a match for any USA NT side. I'd love to see him join us though, and its very possible if he can get some persuasion from the other Americans at United.

Roy Carroll did not start for Northern Ireland in favor of Maik Taylor. Taylor prompty conceded a goal in the 4th minute on a corner kick. No, not a header or deflected cross, I mean, straight off the corner. Poland went on to win 3-0.

Yet another example as to why you must always play United players when you have them... other notable occasions are France's use of Trez instead of Saha at Euro and Portugal having Ronaldo as a sub in their first match at the Euro...

It seems as though John O'shea has picked up a knock in the WCQ... I am not sure how serious it is, but hopefully we have Heinze... this might mean Spector stays in the team... which aint a bad thing imo..

Ronaldo is starting.

So, is Portugal remarkably irresponsible, or is United overstating the danger? United have a justifiably notorious reputation in these matters... but if Portugal are actually acknowledging the existence of the problem, I wonder why he's playing. Not like they're playing anyone difficult, anyway.

If things were that bad we should not have played him when we did... I think SAF needs to give him time off... hopefully a stronger Defense will allow for this...

Ronaldo is starting.

Questions about a handball in the box, but Ronaldo puts home a rebound off a shot taken by Andrade as Portugal go up 1-0.

Minutes later Ronaldo sends in a perfect cross from the right that Pauleta puts in to give Portugal a 2-0 lead.

Now... sub him off so that he can reproduce that form for ManU.... REPRODUCE DAMMIT...

see, this is why we must never go so long without a premiership game... ahhh... especially at the start of the season...

Big Phil is probably more concerned with beating Estonia after their convincing 4-0 win over Luxembourg today.

Petit has come in for CRon late, so he'll get at least a bit of rest. Still I'd rather him start off the bench on Wednesday.

Tim Howard has little to do in the USA's 2-0 win over El Salvador, and I go into my "dear Lord I don't want to hear Max Bretos' voice again for about three years" mode.

How does Max Bretos keep his job? He seems to know far more about rugby than soccer. Is it just a "he was with us when our network was in its infancy" sort of thing?

do you boys know whats happening with Christano, whether he will get a rest or not. personally i think he should have been left out of the qualifiers so he can rest, against Everton he wasn't at his best and i'm a bit worried about burn out, in hind sight he probably shouldn't have gone to the olympics.
