Fourth Round.

We've actually kept this going for four months. I'm happy, and I salute each and every one of you

Again, the "rules"

1.) No current top twenty songs. The idea here is new/undiscovered music.
2.) Local bands are encouraged, but only if they are recorded professionally (I guess if you have some spectacular 4-track recordings this could be overlooked, but they would have to be exceptional)
3.) Limit of two or three tracks per band per CD. No full albums, and not half a cd of your favorite band or friends’ band. If someone wants more of a group they can buy it.
4.) If a member flakes out one month without posting a valid reason, their name is taken out of the hat.
5.) No genre specific mixes, please. Mix up the styles as best as possible.

The timeline to finish your CD is the end of the month, and let's try to get the CD's in the mail by the first week of October. So check your PMs and find your partner for the month.

I think I'm burned out on compiling near-random mixes of musical genres -- I'm going pure concept this time out. Different acts, different styles, but all combined by a blowout theme. YanksFC, you've been warned.

I tried to do that last month, but the two people who got mine seem to have missed the theme altogether. Perhaps I'll be less obtuse this time.

Cool. "Concept" albums have always interested me. I don't have many, but the ones that I do have (e.g., Poe's Haunted) lend themselves very well to repeated listenings. I'm eager to pick up The Streets' A Grand Don't Come For Free for this very reason.

So, I eagerly await your sonic "blowout theme" compilation.

The "concept" theme is fun whether obvious or obtuse. I've sent "bonus" discs with each of my last two mixes and had an all covers disc and an all instrumental disc. I don't know what I'm going to do this time around.

I thought that might be the case, but didn't have the available brainpower to work it out. Sorry.

Also sorry for not posting a song-by-song review. Overall I enjoyed it. The reggae/dub stuff was my least favorite (never been big on that style), but I LOVED the Billy Bragg tune. Puracane and "Sally's Got A One-Track Mind" were also highlights for me.

I've got Dave Marino-Nicholson this month, and should be able to get something together pretty soon. I'm going to rework my discs a bit, as I've gotten a few things that I really love lately and want to get on there. Not sure about an overall theme, though.

I'm sure you guys will run across this elsewhere, but just wanted to post it here in case you don't see it. O'Bartleby, who'd recently joined the Mix CD club has passed away. :(

if you are too lazy to come with a theme, here is a great site that will do it for you:

this freaking volume correction thing on itunes is pissing me off. It corrects the volume on the computer, but not on the CDs. so, as a result, there are a few tracks that are WAY quiter than the others.

i have MP3gain scanning my library right now, but it's been runnign for about 2 1/2 hours and it's only 70 % done. I want to get these CDs out today.

so...whatev...i can send a corrected version later if it's really that big of a deal.

Alright, obie. Your mix is locked and loaded. All I have to do is put together some liner notes and it'll be off in the mail to you. I should have it in the mail by this weekend.

I'm nearly done, Kenobi. Not sure if there's much of a concept there, but hopefully you'll find some interesting stuff on the mix.

Same here. I'm burning right now. I'll need to print some labels at work on Monday, and I'll get it in the mail Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning.

Ok, yeah when making my mixes in the past - the volume thing is always a tricky thing. That's why if you're willing to shell out $200 for a 2 casessette stereo. They have nice volume knobs - for when making your mix Tapes, which surprsingly are still the stylish (or old-school - your call) way of making mixes, just ask 50 Cents :D

For CDs though - you can just go and get CoolEdit.... which is great for fade-ins and fade-outs shrinking big WAVs into smaller WAV w/little drop in sound quality.

Next post track listing from Round 2 and 3 for me ( i know, I know)....

I'm just about done with Murf's. I imagine he's back from vacation? Anyway, it'll probably be in the mail and headed your way by Tuesday.

I'm back. Got back yesterday afternoon. I mailed your discs on Wednesday while I was on vacation. So, depending on how operations are running in FL these days, the postal service should be dropping them off shortly.

I'm looking forward to hearing another gaggle of tunes from you. I hope you weathered Frances OK.

That's horrible and startling news about O'Bartleby. It sure puts everything in perspective.

Iceblink is a really busy guy. I'm still waiting on August's discs from him. I think he's burned them but has been having trouble getting to a post office. So, you may have to be patient for a little while with him.

Alex,
I haven't even started yours yet (wsa trying to get some original material done for it) but IF i can make it to the Wizards game on Sat. I will bring something with me for you. Otherwise, it might be a little longer. I also realize that you're leaving the country soon, so perhaps I should get a move on either way :)
