Excellent post from haven which I think doesn't deserve to be lost if the previous closed Rooney thread.
EDIT: I didn't think it should be lost either. But it's definitely worthy of putting a cap on the whole saga, as well as kicking off the new thread. - Motterman

Screw the cynics.
I'm happy.
Could we have used a winger more? Sure. Do we have questions at DM? Yep.
But you know what? Rooney is the best young player in England. Wait. Check that. Wayne Rooney is the best English player. How do I know? I watched Euro 2k4. He put the rest to shame.
He strikes the ball better than Michael Owen (and isn't a midget), he's skillful like Beckham (and can dribble, too!), has the vision of Scholes (without the asthma and utter lack of athleticism), and has the commitment of Gerrard (without the... ok, I want Gerrard, too).
Is this an optimistic view? Hell yeah. But it's not unreasonable. Wayne Rooney is brilliant. He's the total package. What doesn't Ruud do? He doesn't seem to score from outside the box. Well, Wayne does. In spectacular fashion. Ruud doesn't really create for others either. Wayne does. We've got the perfect partner for RVN. Let's celebrate.
Ruud van Nistelrooy. Wayne Rooney. Alan Smith. Louis Saha. ANY of those players would start for, at least, all but 2 other clubs in England. And most of them could probably start for the other 2 as well.
This is awesome. We rock. We have an attack unrivaled in our long and glorious history.
Rooney may not pan out. Rooney may ruin his career with hookers and booze. Rooney may pick up 38 yellows a year. Who knows? But we've got the brightest talent in English football. And I'm freaking delighted.
EDIT: Damn, was reposting this myself, and realized machoward beat me to it. Durn him. Thanks for liking it, though ;).

I know it sounds daft, but at 16 he was terrorising 20+ year olds -- grown men. At 7 it was 12 year olds. Just some freak that turns up once in a lifetime. Now this new and possibly last side Fergie is building is enough to make me shed skin, just awesome. Heinze and Rio back, Giggs no more upfront etc, dayum dat is badass.

What is Manchester going to do with their other forwards? I don't think that Smith, Saha, Solskjaer, and Bellion will all be happy on the bench. Which one is going to go? I think that this move will force Manchester to unload Solskjaer, and possibly someone else (perhaps Ruud?) Either way, I think that Rooney will help, but Manchester can't hold onto this many world-class players and make them play reserve.

Hell, if you want to think like that, why not pop in Rio, Scholes, Gerrard eh? Since you want to spoil everyone's euphoria and try to boost your team like a regular stinky troll, why not mention the rest of the good English players?
Pffft....

The offseason? Am I alone when I think the summer transfer window should close a little earlier? I can't think of any leagues that aren't in progress right now.

I know it's off-topic but does that mean that real madrid can buy ruud now? Why weren't these big transfers done earlier? Wouldn't it have been easier?

Here's a hint:
To be a good troll, you need to stay in the zone of "reasonable disagreement." The zone of "reasonable disagreement" certainly includes Sol Campbell. It sure as hell doesn't include Ashley Cole. Next time you feel like pissing in our beer, why don't you keep it realistic, so we're annoyed instead of just laughing at you?

Kind of early to talk who should be unload but I think next year we will be keeping this quartet (van Nistelrooy, Rooney, Saha, and Smith). Obviously there will be rumors if van Nistelrooy will leave but I think that is not going to happen, as for Solskjaer his career is almost finished and if he does recover from injuries he will probably play for us in the right wing. Bellion has improved a lot and since he is young and doesn't have the international status of the other forwards he cannot complain about lack of playing time, he should be happy to learn from the other strikers.

Rooney isn't better than Cristiano Ronaldo. Man Utd paid the Premium because he's English and possibly Everton's best player. He's still 18. I'm still wait and see, $45 Million USD aside. Any 18 year old in the world I'd be "wait-and-see" except at Ajax, where when by the time you're 18 you've got Coaching Credentials..

Both Ronaldo and Rooney are terrific players who can set Old Trafford alight. They play at different positions and strikers are usually more expensive than wingers.
I have been pretty bored with ManUtd's attacking play ever since we switched to the 4-5-1 "European" formation. I certainly wouldn't expect us to win the Champions League again just yet as good strikers don't gaurantee trophies these days (see Real Madrid last year).
But as long as they can bring the nice, flowing attacking football back to Old Trafford, I am happy and I don't care how much the PLC paid. I want to see those kind of performances that let us came from 2 goals down to beat Juventus again.
