They will not make a play on polygamy if they have either (a) any class or (b) any sense of original humor. I keep wondering, do people really think the whole "Mormons were polygamists over 100 years ago" joke is still fresh and funny?

Apparently so.

(Sorry... I'm just soooo sick of the many polygamist jokes on this and other boards. Give it a freakin' break already! I can only take so much bad humor...) :)

I am sure that anti-SLC-ites will have plenty to yell if the name is actually Real Salt Lake. No need for Mormon jokes.

I've heard of Crapdis for Colorado and Smurfs for San Jose.

If you are going to to make a joke why not spell MORMON correctly. But don't worry, out here in cowtown we can come up with plenty of Ree-al jokes to avoid a easy and cheap joke about religion ( using an obvious joke like religion shows a lack of creativity on the behalf of the person telling the joke).

Is that really your fifth wife? :D

It's not a joke about the religion it's a joke about the history of men of the region who perverted the word of God to get more trim, not realizing that all the wives would cycle at the same time. Which is why it was abolished. ;)

Ok, now your just being ignorant. If you don't have any respect for something, can you just clamp it then?

Oh I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about soccer...

DC fans refer to the Metrostarts as MetroScum - or just MS for short

Oh you didn't catch my sarcasm. The thing is, you can't give other people your sensibilities, so you kind of have to deal with the masses.

We know in DC our mayor smoked crack with whores.

I know in Delaware, our leagcy is pollution from DuPont.

Ever since the announcement, I've been afraid that F*C# Dallas banners will be draped over the opposition's stands in clear view of the camera. Also, the Real Bad, Real Aweful, etc... thing will have legs. I know you can be more crerative than that, but I'll leave that up to someone else. Any religious slurs whitten on signs will at the very least get the sign taken away. It may get you kicked out and in some places arrested. I'd watch it. Some people are more sensitive than others.

i'm going a bit off topic here, but the purpose was to populate the world with more mormons and it wasn't abolished because of the synching of women's menstrual periods, but because the federal government said the practice had to stop if utah was to be granted statehood.

There have been a lot of jokes -- some of them humorous, and some bordering on prejudice with a healthy slice of ingnorance -- on polygamy in Utah. Here is the straight dope on the subject:

Polygamy was actually stopped because God said so. If the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints bowed to political pressures they'd have gay clergy.

When the extermination order declared on Mormons went into force, what was formerly mob violence was now government sanctioned - and pushed the Latter-day Saints (Mormons) farther west.

When a lot of men get killed, there are widows and kids that need to be protected. Polygamy was used so that all the saints could be protected. Soon after arriving in Utah, it was no longer needed.

A lot of people have the misconception that LDS leaders wanted polygamy so that they could hook up with a lot of pioneer hotties. The actual truth is that it was a commandment to take a new, assigned wife. After Brigham received the commandment, he attended a funeral and recorded in his journal that he was jealous of the guy in the casket because he didn't want to be a polygamist.

For names, there will be plenty to play off of things like sh888t lake, sp888g lake, etc, etc, etc.
