So who is going to replace Sir Bobby and why?

I know it's not very adventurous, but I'll go with Shearer - he has iconic status up there and was partly to do with the usurping of Robbo's power!

Houllier - I doubt it - he's still in the doldrums from Liverpoo.

Venables - has the credentials, but I can't see the Geordies taking to a smarmy Londoner.

Bruce - would love to do it - but he has something else lined up as we all suspect :)

Allardyce - can't see it myself - he's as safe as you can be in the EPL at Bolton, why risk it?

A N Other - McClaren, Curbishley, Strachan et al

Strachan

That would be quite sweet. The Geordies would sort of be able to understand Strachan. I can't myself, nor SAF, but Northumberlanders can penetrate even the most outrageous whinn-bound burr.

Shearer - Being a great player doesn't automatically make you a great manager. Let him be successful at a smaller club first. Appointing him now would be an insane risk.

Houllier - I don't think Newcastle can afford to waste any money on naff players from the french league.

Venables - How many times does he need to fail miserably before people stop wanting to give him jobs?

Bruce - Good manager. Would certainly improve Newcastle's defence. But would probably only leave Birmingham for one club, and it isn't Newcastle.

Allardyce - Great manager. Bolton should have been relegated long ago with the amount of money they have. But because he hasn't won any trophies he'll be ignored again. But McClaren, who spends a lot more money, wastes most of it (Ricketts? Maccarone?), and picks up a carling cup trophy is suddenly a manager in demand.

Got to be other.

comments like this piss me off, EVERY manager spends money, and there have been managers that have spent a lot more than mclaren, and wasted it. Even managers liike wenger waste a ******** load of cash, (look at jeffers), i could make a large list of players wenger has bought that have turned out ********, and other managers... its just the way transfers work out, some work some dont.

If that meant as much to him as you think it should he probably would have played for Newcastle at some point in his career. He didn't.

If he thinks he can get the Man U job, he will choose managing them over managing Newcastle, as it's the same choice he made before but as a player. Man U are the bigger club.

Yes, some managers have worse records than McClaren. But Allerdyce's record is unbelieveable. Compared to McClaren, He doesn't spend money, no. What is the highest transfer fee Allerdyce has paid for a player? I think you'll find it's a small fraction of the £8m paid for Maccarone.

Yes, but there is always a reason why. And the best managers have many more successes than failures.

I don't think McClaren is a bad manager. I'm just annoyed that people rate him much higher than Allerdyce simply for winning a Carling Cup, when considering Bolton's budget they should be in the new League 1 by now. :)

i agree, i do believe he is overated as his reputation does not come from his performances. It's just that it irratates me that people seem to think that middlesbrough spend rediculous amounts all the time. Even this summer we were called big spenders despite lying in 12th place in the spending charts for the summer. I know some may argue that we have taken on lots in terms of wages, but we also reduced the wage bill to accomodate...

anyway

Okay I have an advantage waiting til now. So now that McClaren, Bruce and Shearer have publicly said NO, heaven help them if Hoully says yes.
