I need some help from you guys. How many uncapped players have been regulars in United's line-up during recent years? There's a ton of discussion about when/whether Spector deserves a look from the US Nats. I know there may be some examples of English players who played w/o a cap but have there been any internationals?

Well, no names jump right out at me, but we tend to have a good record with getting players into nat teams... like all Saha did was sign for United and then immediately get called up to the French NT... I think Fletcher's cause was helped by the team he is on and I think if Scholes did not play for United he would not have been selected for England based on a lack of form... of course that's immaterial now...

now my 2 cents? Spector should not be thrown into the fray and given a regular starting role but him playing RB or LB (which he did well for us against Bucharest) in sub appearances in friendlies would bring him along just fine... once he gets used to the players then a starting role might be given, but the key with him is to take it slowly, US fans can be so hard on a player when he underperforms and this kid is ubertalented - you dont want to jeapordize his future...

There was actually such an article in the Guardian last week, to answer the question, "Which Premiership player has scored the most goals without winning an international cap?" This involves players from all over the Prem obviously, not just United.

http://football.guardian.co.uk/theknowledge/story/0,13854,1284860,00.html

Now Spector is obviously a defender, so his goal record is irrelevant. Still, if he reaches the level of even a squad player at United, he should have a very good chance at being a USMNT regular as well. One possibility is that he becomes Gary Neville's successor at RB, but again its too early to say. Most United fans like what they've seen of him.

With regards to uncapped United players, former captain Steve Bruce (played 1987-1996) is probably considered England's best ever uncapped player. He's the most obvious selection for your question.

I appreciate the info. I'm not saying Spector will be a regular or that he should be immediately capped. I just don't think that the people who don't want Spector called in to USMNT duty anytime soon understand that it's practically unheard of (I think) to have a United regular w/o a cap. In fact, a fringe guy like Kleberson gets caps for Brazil.

Steve Bruce... center back for ManUtd until the mid 90's. He and Gary Pallister was one of the best pair of central defenders (according to SAF at least).

In addition to Spector I'd say Bellion is one of those who has not made his international debut even though both are not regular first team players. Don't know if Bellion has player with one of France's youth teams.

I did not realize this and even though I am a fan of your rivals, I can't believe Bruce was never called up!! Does anyone know why? Was it politics, poor timing or was there just someone else who was an automatic choice?

Duh!!!

Lame Excuse 1: I guess when I wrote the original I was not thinking (that they played the same position.)

Even more Lame Excuse 2: Until recently it was really hard to get the results or find out who was playing from over here.

But...

You're absolutely right, I should have known this. Still, IMHO Bruce was such a great player it seems a shame.

See Poll on Arsenl forum about whether topcatcole should be allowed back....... vote at his mercy!!!

(come on it's a slow week with the international break, we've got to have some fun!!)

I'm really hoping that we get enough support for the "ZANI" punishment. If it wins then topcatcole will have to defend all ZANI's arguments for one week. That will be well worth watching.
