I have always admired Alan Smith for his commitment and tenacity, while questioning his maturity and short fuse. What they say about young English players coming to play for SAF must be true because this kid has been great for us right out of the chute. His work rate is tremendous, which we already knew, but his goslscoring talents should really blossom now. Yes, I would love to see Rooney as a Red Devil, but give me 10 Alan Smiths and I'll bring you a treble this year. Smith has given us the best start we could have hoped for without Ruud, Saha and Ole. And leading by example with his heart as well as his head reminds me of a young Roy Keane. Great signing. Great start to what I hope is a long successful career filled with trophies.

He does look like we're seeing his real potential right now. Leeds was such a quagmire, its like he never had a chance to really stand out. His reputation was built less on his goal-scoring and more on his badge-kissing and disciplinary problems there, which is why so many questioned his purchase. I was optimistic that placed in a more stable environment with good coaching and the leadership of his teammates, he could thrive. It looks like that is exactly what is happening. He's looked like an absolute bargain so far. While I'm not ready to proclaim him the "next big thing" just yet, all signs point to him having a great first season and a possible legendary career.

He's really played beyond my expectations. When he joined, he said he knew United fans were sceptical and he'd have to win them over, but he was sure that he soon would. Seems he's already achieved this. I truly never saw the player he is now in him when he was at Leeds. Most amazing is how he seems to have matured so fast. Even when a defender slides in Smith's back, he just walks away (maybe after a scowl or one or two expressive words) but he doesn't lose his head any more.

Wayne Rooney has Handed in a Transfer Reguest!
Wayne Rooney has also Written a statement saying,
"This has been one of the hardest decisions of my life but I feel the time is now right for me to move forward with my career," he stated.
"The Euros were a fantastic experience for me, it made me realise I could play at the highest level.
"To do that, I need to be with a club that is playing in Europe every year. I hope the Everton fans can come to understand my decision and I hope the transfer fee Everton Football Club receive will help the club move forward.
"The Everton fans have always been fantastic in their support of me.
"I hope they respect my decision and I also hope that, some day in the future, I could be welcomed back to watch the team I have supported since boyhood."

Why does every single Premiership thread have to include Rooney content?!?
I saw Alan Smith this summer when Man U played Bayern in Chicago and he and Spector were the only players who looked like they gave a damn about that game. He worked his tail off from start to finish and that made me like him immediately. I think the kid has a great future, if he can keep his strong work ethic.

Yes who does say Smithy does not score enough?;)
I think he will begin a new chapter in his career at OT. He is very young, has great talent, and a lot to do in his years. I think his perfomence against Norwich is just a hint of this.
