I just started getting these emails, and I thought I must have overlooked a box to check/uncheck on their site. I used the site last month for the first time, normally I drive to the venue to avoid the Ticketmaster fee.

Now, a lot of venues are opting out on the no service charge at the venue thing, or they're only making it no service charge day of show, in which case they often raise the ticket price .

If it didn't mean losing out on most shows I want to see and being able to support artists I believe in, I'd do a completel boycott of Ticketmaster events and Clear Channel venues.

You gotta be sh!tting me, I wasn't aware of that. That makes them complicit, now I'm getting angry.

That's the worst part of it all.

We are skirting along the edge of a monopoly there aren't we? Kind of like using Internet Explorer when other superior products are out there. Although, I'm not sure my analogy completely works. Anyone can change web browsers, getting great bands to skip great profits through Ticketmaster and Clear Channel for the principle of it all is tough. Pearl Jam tried it and got smacked down by Congress and the legal establishment. It's really too bad.
There really isn't a good solution, but I suppose you could move to London. That might do the trick.

Tickets.com exists and is a viable option for venues that'll staff their own box office people. You can just do websales with it or you can do a combo of websales & having an actual office. I don't know if the Tickets.com site is searchable or not, but we used their software to sell tickets over the website of the company I used to work for. It is workable for venues that want more control of their tickets, but requires a little more work.
