This is Scunthorpe:
Blues Close To Morrison Deal

Birmingham are set to complete the signing of Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison for a club record £4m.

Birmingham's official website claims City are on the verge of a record signing - and it is understood Morrison will reunite with boss Steve Bruce.

The former Eagles chief had been expected to sign Poland star Emmanuel Olisadebe from Panathinaikos, but the deal hit a snag over wage demands.

Crystal Palace came out worthy 3-1 winners tonight at Whaddon Road as they proved to be too strong in front of goal for the Robins in attack. It started brightly enough, but in the end, good finishing won the day...

Eagles set to give up on Adebola

Trevor Francis is keeping the door open for Dele Adebola to join Crystal Palace - but does not expect him to walk through it.
Francis tried to reunite with the former Birmingham City striker last week, but the move fell down over the Nigerian's wage demands.

Instead, the Palace manager called Steve Kabba into his squad and the youngster came on to score a spectacular winner in the 2-1 defeat of Preston at Deepdale.

Now Francis seems ready to give up on Adebola. He said: 'There is no agreement unless he and his agent reconsider, but I don't see that happening.'

Preston manager Craig Brown watched his team crash to a harsh defeat and was left to reflect on the display of new striker Ricardo Fuller, whose opener was cancelled out by Darren Powell.

Brown said: 'He's an exciting player and it's a pity his goal wasn't the winner, as it deserved to be.'
Neither side looked promotion material and a lack of money means Francis and Brown have little scope to improve their squads.

Who the fcuk told you it was exciting? The first half was absolutely dire. The second half, admittedly, the pace picked up a bit. We probably should have won but, to give them due credit, Bradford fought hard and deserved their draw. When you're 0-0 at home to Bradford with 15 minutes left, you're worried you're about to drop two points. When you're 0-1 down with ten minutes left, I guess you're happy enough to settle for a draw.

We were out of sorts badly in the first half. Looked like a team where the players barely knew each other, which is pretty much the case. But a half time substitution (Black off, Aki on) resulted in much improvement and Mullins, in particular, missed a sitter that cost us dear in the end. Derry, who had a very anonymous first half, played further up the field after half time and that, too, changed the tempo of the match.

As is so often the case, with Palace becoming more dominant, Bradford scored with their only real attack of the match. We equalised more or less immediately, but thereafter we couldn't sustain enough pressure to force the chance for a winner.

Three other impressions. We look like an "almost" team. We're not bad, but not good enough yet. What we lack is creativity in midfield, but we're strong at the back and, when the forward line sorts itself out (which it will...the players are good but are not used to each yet), we'll be ok up front too.

Bradford, in spite of a good result, look like they'll be in for a long season. They really didn't show me anything that makes me think they'll be picking up an awful lot of wins in the coming months, and battling hard will only take you so far.

Darren Powell (Eric the Ninja reincarnated) looks like the best £400,000 buy I've seen in a long time. He and Popovic are the real deal at this level. The only way you'll make chances against Palace is wide. We'll give nothing away down the middle. And that, of course, is exactly how Bradford scored.

The announcers going insane and describing all the near chances. But I should have said the 2nd half was great and an exciting ending.

That's our Trev. I'd slap Klowninko round the bloody head, too, if I could.

By the way, my sources tell me that we are in discussions with Dennis Wise today, and the Dele Adebola talks are also back on. Adebola, we need because Doog and AJ are not well suited as a partnership. Wise (or at least the old Wise) we need too, but I would rather he did not come to Palace.

Can now report that, pending a medical, we have signed Dele Adebola on a one year contract this afternoon. Talks with Dennis Wise are apparently continuing.
