Think of it like this. If we are now all mysterious and making moves in the background..it will mark a new era for us in the transfer market and it will erase the memory of a number of board failings over the last few years...I'm very curious to see what happens after tonights game if we qualify...

Maybe ensuring our place will sooth the bard enough to allow a signing or two. i still think Rooney will stay until January, but hopefully we can add some talent elsewhere for our club.

The Guardian also says that Utd's offer is spread over 5 years.
It seems to me that Alex wants him. Gill doesn't want to borrow money. They would normally have left a decision until the January window when they would have a better idea of Utd's striking strength but with Newcastle moving in then this is not an option - you can imagine Alex arguing "Look, we're going to miss this one too!"
