The first order of business is the club's identity, which is expected to be announced in August.
So we now have a week left in August and still no word. What are the odds that we hear something before September?

It's going to take them a long time to run all that Salt Lake Boom and Real Salt Lake stationery & all those T Shirts through the paper shredder.........
To borrow a phrase from pro bicycling writer Patrick O'Grady, pro soccer makes Glengarry Glen Ross look like a Montessori School T Ball game.
But maybe Checketts et al are delaying the colors/name announcement so as not to steal the spotlight away from the Blitzz playoff run? A sentimental gesture?
Or maybe it is a business decision after all.
Chris & Stacy got, help me out here, about 3,000 or so into Rice Eccles on a Friday night going up against high school football and the Olympics on TV. (Granted, there were a whole bunch of Junior Blitzz players & similar fans who got in on cheap or free tickets.)
Maybe the delay is part of some kind of business deal? Anyone who can draw 3,000 + going up against a Hunter - Bingham game is someone that Checketts should work with.

Maybe they are waiting for the Blitzzzzzz to fall out of the playoffs so that they can announce the Blitzz will be no more and the new MLS team will take the name. Or there will be some kind of combining of the clubs.
Or maybe they are just falling into the typical MLS, 60-90 days hole.

My guess is that they had settled on Real Salt Lake for a name. After floating the name and realizing it was a horrible name that no one liked, they had to start again. Just my best guess though...

Just slightly off topic, but I was doing a trade show in Seattle this weekend and met some random lady from SLC. I asked her if she was excited about the new soccer team and without even having to elaborate, she just chimed in her two cents. "Oh yeah, I'm really looking forward to it."
We talked a little bit about the stadium at Rice Eccles since I was interested in it and she gave me some good info. I know that none of this is really all that exciting, but I thought some of you would like to know that the only person that I've met from Utah in the last months was very excited about the SLC Highlanders (which is what I'm guessing the name will be).

Maybe they just thought the Olympics were taking up the sports page and they wanted to wait for those to end.

I would think/hope they thought of this earlier, if it is infact the case.

Was her name Mrs. Checketts, by any chance?

Maybe....just maybe...some things take longer than you think they do.
Maybe the best laid plans sometimes go awry.
Maybe you obsess too much about having information rightnoworabsolutelynolaterthanyousaiditwouldbereleased.
Ever think about that?

I think I would have to agree. And I bet you there is a psychologist out there that would say the same thing since when Checketts went into that meeting of SL Downtown leaders and floated those four names out there Real was the last one he said. There have probably been studies done showing if someone is aprehensive about an answer they are going to get it will be the last question they ask. I think he really like Real but he was the only one. I hope he didn't get his feelings hurt.
I hope the name comes soon though, the Pepto Bismol ain't working anymore. I've lost all strength, both physically and emotionally. I don't even have the strength to cut my fingernails, I'm starting to look like Howard Hughes in his last days. I'm living off crusts of bread and water.
Now, if someone would just assure me its going to be Highlanders or Alliance, I think the strength would start to come back. Those two names have grown on me, along with the fungus.

Marshall your strength and come to the Blitzz game on Saturday. That'll do wonders for your energy. I highly recommend sitting directly in front of the drummers. That'll wake you up and keep you awake for months.
I personally don't care if they call it the Utah Fungus. I just hope the games are enjoyable and that we win one or two of the first season.

Are you trying to pretend like you know something that everyone else doesn't?

No, I do know something that I don't believe everyone else does. But you'll know it soon enough and it's a good thing for you guys. I just wanted you to know that good news is on the way.

Good for you... bet you know the same something that I know. My only question is how do you run into bonus info from Chicago? I actually have to talk to people here in the city (Salt Lake) to find stuff out.

I smell a stadium announcement ('cause if it is announcing the name of the team, none of the given names would make me that excited.

I agree with dysko, Kenn seems to know many things outside his usual attendance factoids... highly dubious.

Then you need to widen your circle of contacts.

I am not sure that word means what you think it means. If I seem to know things, then it wouldn't be dubious, and you wouldn't agree with dysko.
Just relax. You people wanted news - you're going to get news, if they announce it soon like they should.

But your not giving us news. Your saying "news is coming". No way! :)
Anyway, I just wanted to say "highly dubious". Has a nice ring. Unicron anyone?
