You guys just kill Forlan. We just kill Cygan. We our thin side, I think we should be happy to have a healthy third center back.

However, with Forlan, as one article said, not only can he not finish, he gets in the way of his teammates shots.

The line about Drogba's Forlan-like finishing skills makes me laugh to myself everytime I think about it.

Thoughts?

There are at least a couple of Arsenal supporters who think Cygan is OK. That's not true of Diego here.

The vast majority of us don't really hate Forlan. He scored some vital goals for us back in 02-03, and seems like he's really giving effort out there. But it was painfully obvious that he lacked confidence and wasn't fitting in, and sorry but when you miss easy chances and screw up your teammates chances, you're going to have to be shown the door. Personally I wouldn't say he got much abuse, and deep down we all wanted him to succeed. But recently we've all enjoyed a laugh at the expense of his finishing skills.

As much as I'm glad to see Forlan move on, it's mostly because it just wasn't going to work out for him here. I think he's a great guy and I wish him the best though, and I even think he'll be pretty successful in Spain.

I didn't mean in a personal sense, Motterman. Can you really find me more than one person on these boards who thought that Diego Forlan should stay at ManUtd, whether or not he was a nice guy? (Aside from me, of course. :))

I kind of think a comparison between Forlan and Wiltord would be more apt than Forlan and Cygan. Wiltord scored some important goals for Arsenal but his downside eventually outweighed any of that and it was time for him to move on. Forlan seemed to be in a similar situation. He scored a couple of important goals....the goal to beat Chelsea two years ago comes to mind....but his downside eventually proved too much.

Anybody who would argue that, would only be making a case that he should be kept until our other strikers are fit. Some people think we never really game him a chance, and that might have a glint of truth in it, but we were never going to give him a run of matches in place of our other strikers in order to find out and that, if anything, is my only regret with him.

You must spread more rep.......

spot on Mott... but even so, I could think of a few reasons to have kept him... however for me the biggest reason he had to leave had nothing to do with him proving himself... its that the board were using him as a tool to prevent us from getting into the transfer market again, all in all that's the biggest reason he left... financials... because he was a fighter and perhaps had the best reaction to a ball played into the box of any of our players... Ruud had great positional sense so he doesn't need great anticipation and reaction like Forlan.. Scholes is good too, but for getting to a bad pass, cross or simply a hard to reach ball, Forlan was the best.... of course, what he did with it when he got there was usually the issue... :)

Easy on the caffeine. I read both boards. Christ. There was a thread of joy as soon as Forlan left.

johno, you're not reading. I didn't say you all hated him on a personal level. I didn't hate Bogarde on a personal level either. But you were all happy he's gone. That's the point. No one rushed here to say "oh no".

Probably Cygan. We're all still grateful for Forlan's contributions 2 years ago. He actually looked decent for a few months, which we haven't really forgotten.

I think a lot of the crap Arsenal fans give Cygan isn't entirely fair. He was terrible at first, but looked very solid at times last season.

So, Cygan is the more valuable player... but he's the more despised player of the two by his own fans, anyway ;).

Here's a hypothetical question:

90th minute, Arsenal and ManU tied at 1-1, suddenly Forlan is 1 on 1 with only Cygan and Lehmann standing between him and glory. What happens?

Forlan's shot rebounds off Cygan's head, and falls directly to Sergei Rebrov, who's inexplicably run onto the pitch. Despite being two inches from goal, he blasts the ball at the bar, and injures himself in the process.

Forlan manages to run into Cygan who manages to accidently kicks the ball into his own net for an own goal, as Jens Lehmann gets crazy and decides to kick both Cygan and Forlan's a**s

The FA decides to look the other way on this one

You are still mind reading I see...

so basically what you are saying is we hated Forlan being on our team, but that we had good reason to yet, we should have been upset that he was transfered when we have no reason to be upset about it?

No. He said he's not happy. They have pills for that.

No. The point is that you were justifiably happy he left.
