I am not a fan of Southampton of the EPL but I watched there game on FSW this weekend. The name "Saints" seems like a good option for the new Salt Lake franchise. I like the idea of creating names that are traditional. I will be waiting for everyone to shot me down on this one, but it is just an idea. Because I really hate the ideas for names that I have seen so far in the polls. I think it goes good with the Mormon influence.

Checketts has already come out and said that the team won't be named the Saints. He didn't say why. There have been quite a few people on BS that have liked the name. Perhaps there is some sort of trademark issue with New Orleans?

Sorry, if this is old news, I apologize. It may very well be the NFL having some rights over the name.

Checketts has already gone on record as saying he wants some kind of name that is international in flavor and doesn't scream "Utah" or anything related to Mormonism. No Seagulls, Saints, or Pioneers. It has nothing to do with the NFL.

When are we going to have the name? Did they scrap Real Salt Lake after the tepid response and go back to the drawingboard? RSL isn't half bad. Anyway, looking forward to a name, hopefully sometime this fall...

Guys, Mormons official name is the Ladder Day Saints, that's what LDS stands for. You can't go and call a team the "Saints" in a state where the most power and influence and inter-religious conflict is in a church of people who refer to themselves as Saints. I am from Utah and am not LDS, and I, like probably most of us, would be offended if they named the team that. It's a horrible idea and I'm glad Checketts has acknowledged that already.

Why not then use the anglo-translated version of Real Salt Lake....Royal Salt Lake? The reason spanish teams use "Real" is because its a spanish word it would only make sense to translate it here..right?

Why couldn't it just be called:

Salt Lake City SC
Salt Lake SC

I think it's a little cheesy that Dallas is a "Football/Futbol" club - since we are in the US, but we could just keep it simple.

Then pick a "nickname" or something like that - maybe the Saints would prevail. I think it is a good name because it works tongue-in-cheek... (Mormons/Non-Mormons who take themselves... err, this... too seriously should lighten up).

It's too bad about not having Utah Saints. The song "Something Good" is an excellent "intro" song as the players are announced!
