Galaxy- Fire was a good game...If anyone on the team is to be happy about the change in coach, it probably should be Memo....It seems he'll get many more chances than before

I do not know what to make of the SJ mayor's letter....Probably just politics as usual.....Anyone?

Basically he's setting himself up to deflect any blame if the Quakes leave. He has been entirely MIA during this whole saga, because his only sports-related goal is to get baseball to San Jose, something that will never happen. He refused to even send a statement to the SSV rally. After three city council members spoke, and statements were read from a few that weren't there, there was a chant of "Where's the mayor?" and then the mayor of Santa Clara got up and spoke.

He has been entirely MIA during this whole saga, because his only sports-related goal is to get baseball to San Jose, something that will never happen. Not only that, he reiterates what's something else sneaky about his (and the city's) intentions, and that is the refurbishing of Spartan angle. San Jose State football is getting closer and closer to losing its D-1 status, due to funding problems, from both low attendance and state budget issues. A better Spartan Stadium would help SJSU attract more corporate sponsors and partners. But no one wants to pay for it; not the state, not the school (which has a budding movement to eliminate gridball or at least downgrade to a lower level), and not the city of San Jose, even though they really want big(ger)-time college football whith which to associate themselves. Hence why Gonzales and his cronies have been trying to con Uncle Phil into doing their finanical dirty work.

Even amid all the "where was Ron Gonzales" debate with the Quakes and all, I found this quite interesting.

Save the Quakes
Area has 28 days to save Quakes - Alameda Times-Star (http://www.timesstar.com/Stories/0,1413,125~11080~2351676,00.html)

Clip from the article: It was an emotional game for the players, who before the game unfurled a banner in the middle of the field reading, "Keep us in San Jose." The end result was perhaps the most dominating performance this season for the defending MLS champions.

"We felt like we needed to put something up to let the fans know we want to stay," Earthquakes defender and Livermore product Troy Dayak said of the banner. "This is our place, our town. If we're the orphan or the stepchild, (the on-field performance) was our way of sticking our middle finger in the air and saying, 'If you don't want us, fine, we are going to go out and win this whole damn thing again.'"

I've always liked Troy Dayak, and the attitude he's represented. :)

Yup. Noah Elliott has it 100% right on. Ron Gonzalez was MIA and the letter was completely to CYA.

Funny: the target market that the MLSsuits is trying to cater to with the CA purchase; Latino, and the City of San Jose, Mayor Ron Gonzalez doesn't even give a rats ass about soccer. Ain't that ironic!

Ron Gonzalez should be RECALLED. Lets REstart that campaign right in this board. Time to align with the local far-right group that initially started it when old Ron decided to have an affair in 2003 after being married 30 years. *(like the City of San Jose wouldn't ever find out!) What a loser.

Ronnie, Karma is gonna get ya
