Who are some players with funny are strange names? Nwankwo Kanu from Nigeria and David Seaman from England are good examples. During England vs Sweden, BBC commentator Martin Tyler or whichever commentator it was said , "Alexandersson! Shoots! Seaman's all over it!!!" Three German former internationals. Stefan Effenburg, sounds like it's been censored out really pronounced F***enburg. Stefan Kuntz. Pronounce it the English way and it sounds like "c***s" and also Holger Fach, pronouced ************. From Costa Rica there is Claudio Jara (pronounced Hara), who played for them at Italia 90. It is a Spanish name but say it to an Arab and they'll think you're saying s**t!

Thomas Strunz!! Stronzo in Italian mean piece of **********, and in Naples we say "strunz" in our accent. There was a hilarious interview once with Trapattoni when he coached Bayern in which he was speaking German and recounting a time he was yelling orders at the player during a match. The only thing anyone in Italy understood was "Strunz!!! Strunz!!! blah blah blah Strunz!!!" :D It was on TV in Italy forever...

There are tons in Italy with odd names. My friend once made an entire fantasy soccer team picking players with goofy names. Cozza (which means clam), Buona Morte ("good death"), Conticchio, et al. Then there is Kaka' of course. One of my all-time favorites is Pierre Fan-Fan. Man this thread could go on forever.

I always enjoy hearing:

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink
Bastian Schweinsteiger
and, when commentators pronounce it very badly, Ahn Jung-Hwan

I would say Robbie Savage is very appropriately named.

There's also Della Morte who plays for Chievo.

Chris Tucker in Rush Hour. "You're full of s**t, you understand me! You're full of s**t!" Imagine Claudio Jara and Kaka playing in the same team?

A couple of years ago QPR had two players on their team called Shittu (still there) and Dudu, funnily enough the team back then was crap.

Holger Fach, pronouced ************.
Why does everyone think ch is always pronounced like k in German ? It's true that this is the case in some words, but very often (like in Fach) it's pronounced completely different (the sound doesn't exist in English).
