There are reports (partly confirmed by Michael Zorc) that BVB will offer Christoph Metzelder a new long-term contract (2010). His current contract runs out in summer 2005.
Christoph is since 17 (!) months injured but is expected to return after the winter break. The young (23) World Cup runner-up earns rumoured 1.3 Mio Euro at the moment and is believed to get a contract up to 2-2.5 Mio Euro. But there will be clauses that if Metzelder doesn't come back or get seriously injured again BVB can terminate the contract. The new contract won't be finalised until he is back on the pitch.
Btw, at the moment Metzelder isn't paid by BVB as every professional player in Germany gets paid by the employers mutual insurance association when he is injured more than 6 weeks. Their maximum tariff is about 5.500 Euro per month. But he seems to have a private insurance that makes up for the difference.
