Just a quick note-- I'm flying to the States tomorrow and probably won't be able to do much news, if at all, until next Thursday, so please feel free to start the thread if you feel like it.

A few articles in Spanish:

Hm. This "La Opinion" seems to take a pretty harsh view of the Mexican team too. Maybe that's just the editorial style of the paper. Maybe they don't hate the US after all.

Actually, in this particular article, the players themselves are very critical of their own team's performance

And on this article, that you also posted:
http://www.canada.com/sports/story.html?id=84FBA8E2-4B7B-4856-A078-4F17FF6A01B0
""We had bits and pieces of chances in the game but all in all it was the correct result," said Yallop. "We looked disjointed. We looked like we hadn't played together for awhile. We looked unsure of ourselves until maybe in the second half when we started to get into it a little bit."

Maybe it's the not being used to a coach/players that are that self-critical? [cough] Bruce [cough] ;)

From Mark Connolly's Soccernet article:

"Cobi is still a good player," said Arena, noting that Klein was pegged to get the start as the right midfielder before his injury, which would have had Earnie Stewart come in off the bench rather than start as he did on Wednesday. "We still want to monitor the transition. Obviously, the goal is to qualify. If you don't qualify, the results don't mean crap. Cobi and Earnie are guys who can help us in this stage, there's no question about."

"Can they help us in 2006? I don't know. Hopefully we get there. I know they can make us better to help us try to get there"

"Overall, I think it was a really, really good performance by our team on the road against a team that's going to be fighting to get into the World Cup," said Arena.

"That's a good result."

I can handle Cobi being a role player late in a game to help us qualify, but Stewart? After that super stinky game Arena still thinks Stew can help us? I need oxygen...

"For the fourth time in as many World Cup qualifying games played between the United States and Jamaica, both teams walked away with a point."

Erm, I seem to recall that the last time the two teams met in WC qualification, in Oct. 2001 in Foxboro that the US walked away with all the points in a 2-1 win.

"For the fourth time in as many World Cup qualifying games played between the United States and Jamaica, both teams walked away with a point. The only difference between this contest and the first three is that Wednesday night's game featured some goals. "The Office," as Jamaica's National Stadium is affectionately known, has always been a tough place for attacking soccer. The combination of wind, heat and a field that's probably less than 70 yards wide, has always seemed to favor defenders. "

I believe he meant of WCQs between USA and Jamaica at the Office.
But he could have done a better job clarifying.
