The best Defender in the world just retired last year maybee you guys remember the name Paolo Maldini.

Maldini is not the best in the world and was not for a few years... that said he was one of the best defenders of all time, he just got old (but remained class).
Nesta has been the best for maybe 3 years now.

The best Defender in the world just retired last year maybee you guys remember the name Paolo Maldini.
As far as i know he didn't retire, but has a contract till 2006. He just doesn't play for Italy anymore. And he is not the best in the world anymore.

Maldini was the best when he played left-back and ran up and down the wing, but now he's 36 and plays center-back. Alessandro Nesta is the best in the world.

No one needs Columbian anything, ok? Aston Villa doesn't need them anymore either.
As for the world's best defender now....I'd go with Lahm...even though he is a very attacking defender and is still young, he's going to top the world soon.
