not once but twice!!

we lost 3-2 with his final howler gifting hibs the winner in the 88th min!!

i'll have a video of the match on the celtic results thread as soon as... it's a horror show for celtic fans..

What kind of nonsensical poll is this? Right now, without shadow of a doubt, Buffon is THE BEST GOALKEEPER ON THE PLANET. Nobody else even comes close. When all is said and done, he'll be the best ever.

Also, the choices indicated are comical. Couldn't anyone come up with a better list than that? Howard? :rolleyes:

he is not obviously, and not the best ever, but he could be close, he sure as hell will probably go down as much better than zenga, who is around top 20-25 gk all time, so top 10 all-time, is imminently doable. as for top 5 or threatening zoff and yashin, well you have to do it at a high level for many, many years to be put up in that echelon, so i agree it is too high a praise right now as he is only 29, but he is for me the best gk right now, and nobody can take away his world cup performance that was one for the ages. he has saved italy's hide then at times and in a couple of key qualifiers, like the ukraine game.

i sure as heck wish milan had him. :p

I'm a fan of neither. Buffon has clearly been the best keeper for a number of seasons and will go down in history as one of the best ever.

In addition, that is something I have thought for numerous seasons and long before the previous WC. Anyone with any knowledge of football would say likewise.

There is obviously a hint of bias, but the praise for Buffon is well-warranted. There is no keeper in the world like him. Also, with respect to other great Italian keepers of the past, many experts already rate him above Zoff, and that is saying something considering the guy was still the starting Azzurri keeper into his forties.

Buffon has been a key component to the success of both Juventus and Italia; I don't know if that could be said of guys like Casillas and Cech (so overrated).

I never said that Buffon shouldn't be mentioned. My first post in this thread said he was one of the best now. He's amazingly good but I don't think he's leaps and bounds better than every other goalie in the world.

And saying he will be one of the best ever is not even close to the same as saying that he will be the best ever. One implies that he has no peers...no equal in the entire history of football.

And you're wrong. If Juventus this year could be in the top 4 (for Champions League) Buffon will be one of the reason. Just look on youtube at his amazing saves this year in the first 4 matches to understand.

Juve IS unimpressive this year, but we can go through CL only just because Buffon. :)
