That Washington Post article said Walker, Gaven, and EJ are joining the nats from that Sunday game. Given what Bruce said about using experienced players for this game wouldn't it make more sense if the 3 players were Walker, Pope, and Gibbs? I hate to question Goff or his sources, but I can't imagine us beginning semifinal qualifying without Eddie Pope.

Isn't Pope hurt? That's always a fair assumption with Eddie.
And Gibbs was listed on the last MLS injury report.

Pope and Gibbs left for Miami BEFORE the Sunday game. Only the reserves EJ, Gaven and Walker left AFTER the game.

One of the more ill considered rulings by FIFA. Go back to discussing the length of women's shorts.

Did you read the article?
His "source" was his own two eyes standing in the team hotel lobby in Miami.

Assoming this means that Sigi left b/c he played "go-for-the-tie" soccer, it would be a good thing for the league if other teams followed suit. That means you, Tim Hankinson and Steve Nicol. And sometimes you, Greg Andrulis. The league really needs to take a stand on this.

It's not an MLS thing - it's a soccer thing. As long as a draw is an acceptable result (and sometimes it is), and it is much, much better than a loss, you're going to see that.
You won't change the soccer mentality that has been ingrained over 100+ years.
Not saying I agree with it, it just is what it is.

It's not as simplistic as you put it, either....A tie in the EPL is not usually played the same as a tie in Serie A (where tactics reign supreme, maybe not so much lately but certainly more so in previous years) The unfortunate thing is that if Colorado (almost too frequently), Columbus (often), New England (sometimes), Dallas (sometimes), play not only to tie, but also NOT EVEN TO TRY TO SCORE.....then there you have about a (roughly) 30% of games which start on the very boring premise of the 0-0 WITH ZERO or few chances...Have fun MLS fans!
A 9-year old league should not think it cannot do better on the field. When one sees the players on each team, one figures that the product can certainly be better (or at least that we should be able to watch better games MORE often)...Unfortunately i'm seeing many MLS ties looking like Serie A ties, where the supposed lower team just won't do much to score....Considering MLS teams are better equipped to play each other, i do not see any other reason for this than the cautiousness of coaches afraid to lose their jobs....A proposed solution Wynalda had was the bonus for players per win....I guess coaches can share in the wealth here too, and that way (hopefully) many games won't be played in such conservative manner, especially now that the teams supoosedly know each other (and themselves) and are getting ready for the postseason.....End of rant, hoping for a great last few games. post season, and an even better season next year (one can always hope, right?)

I respectfully disagree Kenn.
The US has been known to totally change things before. Part of the reason the Fire became so well supported so quickly is that they showed up every week almost arrogant in their attacking aggression; sporting a 3-4-3 no less.
The NBA did the same thing when they began to outlaw zone defense, implemented the 24 second clock, etc.
Most likely, the team tactics WILL have to play in accordance with the tastes of the local fan base. Much like NBA and NFL teams do.

That's fine, but what are you going to do to change the mentality? And how much can you tinker with the rules?
Bonus points to "encourage" attacking soccer? USL tried it, and I haven't run all the numbers, but I thought I saw that goalscoring wasn't affected that much, if at all.
Other than that, how are you going to make it "easier" (relatively speaking) for teams to attack? Bigger goals? Do you risk alienating the precious purist fanbase the league has been trying to get back?
And you'd have to get the coaches to buy into the idea. As long as a lot of them are set in their ways (and many others are European), they're going to have as Objective #1 "Don't Lose Today."

One step that would probably help:
Put pressure on the AR's to give the attacking side the benefit of the doubt on offside calls.
