Still, it was a fun season and having the drafted league was by far the best fantasy league game i have yet played.

Count me in for next season.

Yep, very happy with how it worked out. I ended up paying much more attention to this one than either Deadlystrike or Yahoo, or to my other non-restricted cyki team. I think next year I'll just have the two cyki teams and that will be it.

Don't run the league/FA cup in house comps at the same time.

This has been by far the most interesting fantasy league I've done. I agree with comments about only running one cup competition at a time, but generally the cup competitions are part of what made this league so interesting.

Should we do anything about those who joined the league only to abandon their teams next season? Of course we're looking for more rather than fewer teams, but when teams can't share players it kind of ruins things to have two dead teams laying claim to 30 players. I still give Michel the benefit of the doubt and, assuming he provides an explanation, propose that we give him another shot next year.

And a final note -- how very like my team to come up with its best performance, 117 points, right after there was nothing left to compete for. More performances like that and LSG might have had some silverware after all this season. Haven't researched, but has anyone had a higher single-week score this season? Has any player contributed more than the 50 I got from Pires this week?

I think both were records for the season.

I say give Michel the benefit of the doubt too, he is still active on the uefa.com contests too.

Certainly the most enjoyable was the small rocks league and the cup contests suggestions are noted.

Treble cups can be delivered to .... :)

Season over

Kopite Jrs, London St Germain, and Chelsea in PA finish as the top three.

Hasslebaink really let me down this year after being such a consistent Golden Boot threat for the last 5 years.

And drafting last year's #1 overall scoring defender, Ian Harte, didn't work out so well either!

Looking forward to the new season. Let's keep the following 6 members, and expand by four:

Hal
Jon
Mark
Jay
Michel
Paul

Brian (relegated)
Cape Trib (relegated)

If Michel has been active with his teams in other leagues (champs league, whatever other leagues you guys have joined with him) I move we relegate him as well. I only monitor activity in this league so as far as I can tell his credibility is unblemished. But if he's continued making changes to his other teams we'd have to interpret his abandonment of this team as voluntary, which would put a different spin on things...

On a happier note, any nominations for the following player categories?

-most improved
-best new player
-biggest disappointment (although Jay may have just named him)
-surprise performer of the year

We need to add coach/manager of the year to that list ;)

Boy, that's an easy one! Cape Tribulation, of course -- a true player's coach, had the faith to let his players make all the decisions on the field for the whole season. Now that's brilliance.

Of course, seriously, young Chloe does deserve mention for her consistent excellence all season. To rank as high overall as Kopite did all season with the restrictions of this league is a real achievement.

The first half of the season was a one man show for Mark wasn't it?
Henry simply dominated the league and being captained made it frightfully hard to compete with him in our restricted league.

If Michel is active on another site then he really should have taken the time to fix his mistake.Poor form just geting pished off and walking away like that.

If i remember right Mark was forced to take an auto points deduction?

Excelent point about the players being tied up also.

MY Votes.
-most improved...Zola
-best new player...Geremi
-biggest disappointment...Gudjohnsen
-surprise performer of the year...Zola

Gianfranco Zola scored three goals for CFC last season and generally showed his age with adequate performances at best.
He banged in 16 this season and was named player of the month in October and ran it close several other times.Scored some simply fantastic goals and was a Joy to watch.

Geremi came over from Spain with a good reputation but little in actual proven performances at a high level. He proved to be a master steal for McClaren and was an integral part of a decent Boro side.Cracker of a free kick taker and tons of speed made him my choice.

Eidur Gudjohnsen showed so much character and poise last season that when i had the choice of picking him i felt sure he was going to be to me what Henry was for Mark.It was a bitterly disappointing season for him.He came close to Hasselbaink for wining this dubious award but at least Hasselbaink scored 15 goals.

Zola again wins the last choice for me as he was expected to struggle to even make the bench ahead of Carlton Cole let alone beat out the much vaunted strike force of the previous season.A feat he not only managed to achieve at an early stage, but, maintained all season long. And at his age that in itself was astonishing.

Going through these categories bit by bit, but I can nominate a top 3 big disappointments list:

1. Ziege: Well a catastrophic knee injury is not exactly his fault, but if we're talking purely in terms of expected points output, he has to take the cake. I think any of us would have been happy to draft him back in August and he turned out to be worthless.

2. Malbranque: Still had a pretty decent season but looked like a solid bet for top-5 scorer after last year. Seemed to perform well for Jay late in the year but this didn't erase for me the impression left by so many months of low scores.

3. Owen: Same as above - but a pretty good season from Owen is pretty disappointing. Was never a hot commodity this year in any of the leagues I played.

And for surprise of the year I'd suggest Radzinski, who was great for me, saved my season until he got hurt. When I bought him I considered him a "least bad option" but he was one of the highest-scoring strikers in the league until his season ended. And just think, for a brief time Everton were playing with a (Polish-)Canadian/American attack!
