Okay, you need to start thinking of songs your supporters can sing. Here's a real obvious one right off the bat, especially given the LDS community. Take "When the Saints Come Marching In" and play with the words to fit your team and the game.
Any other contenders?

I'm just going to bring up "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree" to get it out of the way early...

"Book of Mormon stories that my teacher tells to me" has a good beat to it.
To be honest though, its been so long since I've been to church I've forgotten all of the songs. I work on Sundays though, so, its ok, I'm still in good standing, ......I think.

I need to find me one of those Sunday-working jobs. Or at least get me a couple kids so I can bail on the last 2.5 hours of the block. "Come, Come Ye Saints" would rock as a team anthem, though, especially the part about "and should we die before our journey's through, happy day, all is well!".
Maybe that's too self-defeatist.

Sorry Zoobie, it's not a BYU game
You're giving having-a-good-time-while-sober a bad name :o
Here is a list that will serve as a start:
RAF song book (http://www.usldiscussions.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=27;t=001006)
Hopefully there aren't lots of you going thru the hymnbook and primary songbook looking for good soccer tunes (though a few of them might fly). But as the weasel says, to the tune of Come, Come, ye Saints: "Come on Salt Lake..."

I like the idea of hymns of church used in soccer chants. At least I already know the melody. How can we incorporate Elders of Israel or Call to Serve? :)
Personally, I tape all the matches on Sunday. You know sabbath and all. Church isn't so bad. I figure you get out what you put into it.

Foo. :p
If West Ham can come out to "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles" than anything is fair game...;)

Whatever you do, I suggest making a as many photo copies as possible of the clean songs and distributing them to fans as they wak into the stadium. It may sound lame having to pass out lyrics to a soccer song, but with no tradition you got reason. Make the fans in SLC think that this is what happens at soccer games, fans sing. That alone could really help out keeping fans excited. It's stuff like that that makes college football fun to attend. Everyone knows that BYU (and I think Utah too) sings their fight song after every score, have something similar for these soccer games. And whatever you do, for your sake, for your daughters sake, don't allow the horns to sound in SLC (and if they do, make sure they are gold in honor of Moroni).

I agree with FreddyG. You will draw lots of fans your first couple of games--the newness of it, b/c it's an "event" and gets lots of coverage. So impose the game culture from game one! Have a couple of chants and songs already developed, a clear supporters section who stand and chant all game, NO CANNED MUSIC playing inside the stadium, get the PA announcer or bulletin board to help assist in getting a chant or song started for the first time. You'd be astonished at how much of an impact it will have in jump starting your culture.
If you play it right SLC could be a devilish place to play. Altitude, heat, at least a core of sophisticated fans who've seen quality stuff overseas. Add an enthusiastic group of supporters (even if it's a bit vanilla in the chanting--I can't see SLC having obscene songs or chants by 2,000 people) and you'll get a rep as a unique place to play.
But I've got to disagree with the horns. When it's random and just a bunch of kids blowing them, it is distracting. But with knowledgable fans (and there is a bit of a tie-in with the Angel Moroni thing), they can be as distinctive as whistles by the fan in South America.

Lord if we could only get the silly announcers to stop playing "jock rock" every time there is a throw in.
The small but vocal rag-tag group for the Blitzz games already had a good selection of chants and songs. A lot of them should be easily adaptable for the new team. (Probably need to tweak a few of them once we find out the new team name and colors.)
We've tried to keep things reasonably "family friendly" given the local culture as the last thing we want to drive is drive away fans because they are offended.

Wasn't there a gentleman visiting the Salt Lake boards who was interested in bringing bagpipes? That would be freeky cool!

I'm voting for a full band in addition to the bagpipes. And the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, singing the chants. (The decent ones.) How would that be for distracting to the other team?

No, no, by all means get used to it. :)

I would bring my pipes if they would allow them in the stadium. I'm not sure if they would though.
I would just feel sorry for the poor chap's ears that would wind up sitting next to me. It would be really cool to get multiple pipers playing to really get the volume up. We could also have the drummers learn the tunes too. However, with the dry climate in Utah, it's pretty much impossible to keep a set of pipes in tune for any length of time not to mention a whole pipe section. Might be kinda scary... :D
I talked with my pipe major and the whole band would be willing to play at halftimes, if desired. There are a couple other pipebands in the area that would be willing to do the same as well, I would imagine.

A couple songs that we could adapt:
Bro Hymn by Pennywise
Urlando Contro Cielo by Ligabue
Both of these songs have got great choruses without words, they would sound really cool if a whole stadium was singing them. Maybe I'll bring a CD to a supporters club meeting or something.

Well, I'm sure there will be some small corner of Rice-Eccles Stadium that could house you and your pipes for a few minutes here and there... After all, you don't really think we'll fill the house, do you? That would be wishful thinking. So let's find out if they're allowed!
This makes me wish I'd kept up with my bagpipe lessons. I was very good w/ my chanter fingering, but I was just lousy with the pipes themselves so I gave it up! :)

Please, please, please no church hymns. I don't know them, I don't want to know them, and I don't want to hear them. I also don't want to see the LDS and non-LDS fans divided, and to prevent that there must not be any use of religious allusions of any sort in the stadium. You might say that your religion applies to every aspect of life and everything you do, including watching soccer games, but it really has nothing to do with soccer and you might leave a bad taste in the rest of our mouthes by bringing it up.

I really doubt that there will be any verbatim hymns at the games. I haven't heard any at the 5-6 BYU pointyball games I've attended. No reason to think that they'll pop up at RES.
However, melody poaching is another thing. Plenty of melodies for hymns of all faiths have borrowed melodies for their own purposes. Soccer can do the same.

Some religious songs have been heard in the stands (with words changed): Adeste Fideles, He's Got The Whole World In His Hands (changed to You've Come A Long Way Just To Lose), etc.

I attended every home football, basketball, and women's soccer game this past year. Not a single hymn, primary song, etc.
