I'm really pissed -- the phone connector part on my Tivo broke - so I figured it would be a really simple fix and my Tivo is under extended warranty with Circuit City so I figured rather than void the warranty and try to fix it myself, I'd let Circuit City's repair central fix it. I just picked it up and not only did they scratch the hell out of it, they didn't repair the part, they clearly didn't test it, but they did manage erase the entire hard drive. I have no idea what the hell they did, but what made them think it was fixed?
I'm an idiot for leaving stuff on it I wanted to keep but how could they send it back without even testing to see if it works?
Just a warning to anyone using Circuit City's repairs -- Incompetence like this is really irritating because I'm sure they aren't going to give a crap that they deleted my stuff or scratched up my Tivo.

not to threadjack, but Circuit City is horrible. A coworker of mine has been battling with their customer service for 2 days now.
He ordered a $15 pair of headphone and they never came in the mail. When he called to inquire, they said it would taek 3 business days to tarck it, and 5-10 to re-ship it out again.
He explained that is was such a cheap item, they shoud just reship it and return the other pair, or hook him up with some sort of rebate, etc for the hassle..
They were rude, disinterested, and dismissive each time he spoke with someone..

I worked at Circuit City many years back for a few years. If they damage the Tivo you could of b*tch your way to a new one. They usually note any scratchs or dents prior to taking your tivo in for service. You could of used that report to back up your claims. If you talk a good game they usually will do whatever then can to make you happy. If that does not work ask for the District Mangers phone number and watch the magic happen.

Circuit City blows. Don't ever go there to get your car stereo installed. Those morons - in the mid nineties, maybe even today, stereo systems came out using "keys". Like, Ford's factory stereo's had 'key's that you could use to remove it from the dash. Those guys, with a collective IQ rivaling that of a dead fish, don't seem to understand this. A buddy of mine took his car there, and they tried to remove his stereo with a butterknife.

This actually had a happy ending. I tried sending my Tivo in 3 times (it turns out it was Sony's repairs that was incompetent) and because they couldn't figure out that it was just a cheap part that needed replacing, Circuit City decided to give me store credit in the amount of my original Sony Tivo - about $400 (and I had received a $100 rebate off the $400 at the time of purchase).
So, with the store credit I bought a DVD Recorder with Tivo (Humax is the brand) with a 3 year warranty and Tivo said I should be able to transfer the lifetime service to the new Tivo.
After the $100 rebate it will cost me about $75 to in effect replace my 3 year old 35 hour Sony Tivo with a new 80 hour Series 2 Tivo with a DVD recorder and another 3 year warranty.
Not bad considering my original 3 year warranty expires this week.
