ok, my favorite team got relegated and i haven't kept up with them as much as i'd like. when i visited their site (i don't read german) it looks as if they are playing their home games once again at Grünwalder Stadion.

how'd that come about? weren't they contracted to play at the olympic stadium? since they are now in Bund2, does this have any affect on their deal to build that stadium with bayern (whats the latest with the scandel and the 1860 president)?

sorry for the all the questions, and thanks for the answers (if anyone has 'em) in advance.

They found a solution that allows 1860 to play this season in Grünwalder (had to spend some money to meet Bundesliga2 standards). IIRC 12 of 17 home matches will be played there. Only matches against opponents with big away support or problematic supporters (Cologne, Frankfurt, Dresden...) will be played at Olympiastadion.

They will definitely move to Allianz-Arena next season (unless there aren't big surprises like another relegation etc.)

Actually Wildmoser senior (1860's former president) is cleared of all charges. His son, Wildmoser junior, is the one that made some illegal business. Probably the Allianz-Arena company (München Stadion GmbH), which Bayern and 1860 each own 50% of, will sue Wildmoser junior and demand the money back that they paid to much due to Wildmoser giving the building company (Alpine Bau) secret infos and thus enabling them to raise the price for the stadium up to München Stadion GmbH's spending limit (which was kept secret).

Plus, the fans were always vocal about a move back to Grünwalder. For them, this is heaven. And with the club only 1/3 filling the Olympiastadion, at best, in the Bundesliga, it was clear that it'd just be too big for them in the 2nd BL. They'll still play five home games there though, those with security issues (Frankfurt, Essen, Dresden, Cottbus and Erfurt I believe).

If you think MLS games at NFL stadiums are cavernous, check out an 1860 game at Olympiastadion (vs. anyone other than Bayern, Dortmund, Schalke, etc.).

What part of Munich are they putting up Allianz Arena in?

The Olympiastadion is where the circle is on the map. Allianz-Arena will be at the northern outskirts of the city (at AB-Kreuz Mü.-Nord).

Keith's Response: Actually Manoj, it will be between AB-Kreuz Muenchen Nord and "Garching". It's at Froettmaning, just off the A9. I used to park my car there and take the U-Bahn into Muenchen for matches and other activities.
