The linked poll allows you to vote on the top five names for an Seattle MLS club that current A-League Sounders fans have selected:

The poll allows ballotbox stuffing!

Post cool Euro-name variations here. :)

Greetings Mr. Blues. Your idea may be a decent compromise, though I like Emerald City SC more than Seattle SC.

There's no such thing. Euro-names for US teams look desperate. Copycatting is rarely ever cool.

I like "Emerald City Sounders," but that's not really "Euro-ing it," I guess.

Why would you go with anything besides the classic Seattle Sounders identity?

Because to many people the name represents "minor league" soccer here. A new name would wash away 30 years of tradition, however the tradition hasn't put people into the seats.

Now that I think about it, I must say I like ECSC a lot also. It flows very well, and doesn't have a stupid marketing gimmick type of name like Wizards for example.

Apparently, most folks agree with you.

Seattle's current (2004) attendance average is 2,700.

Our over-all A-League attendance average (Previous TEN seasons) is 3,400.

Some days I think that sucks, other days I think it shows a long-term stability, and is OK for a Div. 2 /Minor League soccer franchise.

What other "major league" US soccer city would average more for an A-League side?

LA? No way.
NY? Remember the Centaurs?
Chicago? Not likely.
Philly? Hard to say.
Dallas? Ha!

I wish the current Seattle FC had more fans. That is really the only question mark regarding Seattle and MLS:

1. Ownership looks to be stepping forward.
2. The league still wants a team to cover this huge region.
3. MLS seems to be OK with giant Qwest Field.

But...

I still wonder about how many fans will pop out of the woodwork when the MLS league logo appears beside a "Seattle FC" one.

RC Seattle - Racing Club of Seattle or just Racing Seattle.
With a Starbucks Logo/Sponsership right on the front of the jersey!
You could still call them the Sounders.

I'll root for whatever team you guys get (as long as they're more exciting than my local Rapids). Good luck. Q

Wasn't "Steelheads" the runner-up in the original name-the-team contest back in '74?

Nope, didn't even make the short list.

Steelheads was the name of Seattle's entry (only one or two years I believe) in baseball's Negro leagues way back in the day. Only reason I remember that is the Mariners had a "turn back the clock" day a few years ago where they wore Seattle Steelheads uniforms and the other team (Kansas City I think) wore the corresponding uniform from their Negro league team from the 40's.
