I watched the Reading West Ham game, and it was infact one of the best games i've seen for a while, real end to end stuff, and the score didn't do it justice.

But anyway to the point of the thread, i saw little bits of Bobby Convey and he does look quite a good little player he was always ready to receive the ball and running into space, one for the future i'd say.

I was at the Reading match last night (infact i'm at all of the home matches so if you have any questions...); a 3-1 victory for the Royals.

Bobby played for the last 15-20 minutes, when the score was at 2-1. We seemed to be playing a lot of long ball stuff, so it kind of cut him out of the game to an extent. When we did play the ball on the ground, he had some good link-up play with the leftback. Our 2 wingbacks are probably one of the strongest pairings in the division, and usually attack really well with the midfielders so this was good to see.

He had a good run through on goal with the score still at 2-1, but seemed to trip over his feet a little and lost the ball. People on our messageboard from the US have mentioned that his finishing isn't the best, and its seems thats probably true. But, if he gets a few more chances to score, then one is bound to go at some point, and all you can ask is for the player to get into that position in the first place.

Thanks for the update I noticed Reading continued it's winning streak this weekend. Second in your division now? Bet Convey likes the way that feels. He didn't get any minutes though? No need I guess.
Thanks again.

Convey's player ratings have been 6 almost every outing so far. he's right in the mix when he plays, but he clearly hasn't settled yet. Or, if he has settled, he's a very expensive situational sub. I follow the team on internet radio for the most part, and the announcer speak highly of a lot that he does. had issues tuesday with pinching in too far and got a constant torrent of ``advice'' from a manager.

Where is he playing for Reading? Arena always seems to move him around and I wish he could settle on a position. He's been playing LB most recently, but someone mentioned that Reading has the strongest pairing of wingbacks in the first division, so I can't really see him breaking in there.

Convey's been playing on the left wing for the most part, although he hasn't been starting for a while. When he went away on international duty our other left winger got the spot and put in a good performance, so kept his place in the line-up.

On Tuesday we had a cup game against Watford, who we also play today in the league. They won 3-0, which was extremely flattering as they got 2 goals in extra time. We were pretty rubbish though, with a few starters rested, and hopefully we'll prove it was a bit of a fluke today. Convey started, but he didn't seem to want to go past players, which i'm sure he is capable of. Its like he's scared to try and skin a player incase he loses the ball, so always plays it back infield. Some people sat near me were saying he needs a goal or something to boost his confidence, which I think is true. Towards the end, he was switched to left back, where he looked far more comfortable in my opinion. Unfortuneately for him though, we do have a very good left back who was rested, and it seems very unlikely that he'll be replaced.

If i'm honest, I think people are beginning to question how much we paid for him. Thats not to say that he won't be worth £800k in the future, but at the moment, he hasn't really done anything spectacular. Part of me is agreeing with that, but part of me is also saying 'hang on, this guy has just moved to a new country with a totally different footballing style and results won't be instant'. Today would be a great time for him to come off the bench (which I think he will probably be on), run from the half way line and put the ball in the top corner. Fingers crossed, because I think evry Reading fa wants him to succeed.

Nice to see people in England are more forgiving than Americans. He's really good but it doesn't sound like him to pass a ball back instead of forward, not that I've never seen him do it he just usually doesn't. It's understandable that he'd be scared to lose a ball if he tried to run through a player but I assure you he's very capable of doing it and when he does it, and does it on a regular basis, you guys'll love him.

He does have some confidence issues though I think. He hasn't scored a goal in like a year, he had a few assits with DCU before he went over there but he hasn't scored in awhile so someone's probably going to have to tell him something that he doesn't like before he does, he's at his best when he's confident.

I don't think Reading paid too much for him I just think they over hyped him before he got there because everyone here was like, "Bobby's not star of the national team." From what I've heard here and what I've read on the reading site you're right he hasn't done anything amazing which is kinda dissappointing but when he's at his best he's good. Me, and a lot of other people, are hoping that he reaches his potential at reading because once he does he's gonna be great. Once he settles in and realizes that he's not going to die over there you'll probably see a totally different player. Nice to know that Reading fans like him and want him to do well because there seem to be a lot of DCU fans who don't like him too much, I personally love the guy and think once he starts playing as well as he can he'll be a great asset for the team.

Yeah I think he was hyped up quite a bit.

On the Reading messageboard this post came up out of the blue saying we were close to signing this American called Bobby Convey. I don't think many people really knew who he was but soon found out that he was a regular in the national team and Spurs had treid to sign him the year, so I think a lot of people expected instant results.
The price probably puts more pressure on him as well, as he was nearly our record signing.

Oh, and we won yesterday as well which means for the first time in our history we're top of Division 1 (or whatever its called these days)! Woohoo!
All together now; "We are top pf the league!"

If anyone is interested. I bought a Bobby Convey Reading jersey on www. t h e o n i o n b a g.com before the season start.

Don't forget, Reading is one 3 teams in England with TWO American regulars
(Hahnemann).

The others being Man U (Howard and Spector and they have 2 16 year olds) and Fulham (McBride and Bocanegro)

Not a regular but he's one of the, say, top 5 choices?

Coppell had only seen him on video. Obviously thought he was more than he is to fork out the best part of a mill, otherwise he'd play him.

He probably only saw the moments where he was absolutely amazing. I don't think he paid too much for him he just has to figure out how to get him to play at his best all the time because once he starts doing that he'll be great.

Well worth the time to register for a free month at reading world

www.readingfc.co.uk I think, but it may be com just to watch him in last week's reserve match, where superbobby was on display. that's why they paid the money. they know it's there, they just have to figure how to get at it.
