wow, you must be a regular einstein! Anyway, who is ur team...

Everyone is quick to judge portugal when they lose one game, its amazing...

By the way, I dont think this thread is appropriately titled, as it gives away the game's result..

but yeah..congrats Iraq..

Agreed.I saw yesterday a snob Potugal, who played against a good and balanced Iraq...who was REALLY better.

Think C.Ronaldo next match will think again about playing like a movie star...

When the game started I was cheering for Iraq, but as the game went on I became turned off by their diving and overacting, and (although of course this isn't their fault) how much they were favored by the ref. Portugal obviously played very poorly but so did Iraq and they really didn't deserve a win any more than Portugal didn't. Remember that Portugal tied the game in about the 85 IIRC which was called offsides when in fact he was a good two or three steps onsides. It would have been more just for the game to end in a 3-3 tie.

Holy Fu<k...Never expected Iraq to beat Portugal with players like Ronaldo, Boa Morte(even though he got sent off) ,Meira, etc....
I still believe Portugal will go through. They get better as Tournament goes on....

Congratulations to Iraq!!!

Congrats to Iraq, but for the love of all things soccer, quit diving. I saw at least two yellows drawn by flat out dives and one red. That was horrible to send of Morte, a yellow yes, but not a red.

Although, did anyone seen the head of the Iraqi Olympic committee(sp, not awake yet) yesterday on Cold Pizza. He was griping that the 10 million that was given to the Olympic Comm. was not enough, they wanted double that. Oh well. Well played by Iraq on the goals, those you can't take away because of the dives. One of the goals, the Portugal back line looked like the Carolina Courage of the inaugural WUSA season.

playing ******** in the opening game is a portugese tradition, Iraq were just lucky enough to be there when it happened, i think Argentina are clear favourites but it will be italy or Portugal they end up facing in the final.

For the record, I'm Iraqi.

Yes, diving left and right and basically Portugal was playing against 12 man. I wish I could say we won fair and square but we didnt.

But you know what? The Iraqi team has seen so many injustice through the years its due to dash some for a change (By injustice i mean not playing home games in Iraq, corrupted AFC officials and referees and rich gulf states, etc etc)

Portugese were unlucky to face Iraq in this game and so will Morocco and Costa Rica be and whatever team Iraq will face in this Olympics. I'll reserve my final judgement till after the next game, but from the look of it, THEY decided to give Iraq a medal.

That's quite the statement. I didn't watch nor hear the game but no one can refute the fact that Iraq scored 4 goals (5 technically). That to me is the bottom line...the ref didn't score nor did he leave huge gaping holes in the back. Now, 4 goals does not exemplify a strong defense. In closing, sure the officiating was bad but without a doubt Portugal's defense or lack their off was much worse.

Iraq's 4th goal was in stoppage time when Portugal had all their men forward trying to tie. Had Portugal been given credit for their tying goal Iraq would never have scored again and it would have ended a tie. Despite the scoreline, Portugal dominated the match but were poor finishers and Iraq scored on all 4 chances they got. Every time a portugeese defender made any kind of play he was called for a foul and usually given a yellow. It's tough to defend properly when you're afraid of the ref. They are to blame for a laziness in marking players and not finishing but they deserved a draw and Iraq absoluetl didn't deserve a win.

Iraq didn't deserve? Dude, your team just lost by 4 goals and one of Portugal goal was an own goal by an Iraqi defender. Give Iraqis the credit they deserve. They were not afraid to match the Portuguese in every aspect of the game from defending to scoring. What is it with the diving and refree cry?
