Even with all that they were still broke. It's great that the Argies want our players but the Argies don't like to pay for them.
they had just sold Vargas, plus they won 3 championships from 1999-2002, plus Copa libertadores money, plus the pass for Vazquez, and Viriviezcas (although he may be on some sort of loan)... they could've held on, sent him to Argentina, and then made some good money. They are desperate for goals over there!

2 things,
1)I don't know if that dollar figure is accurate.
2)you're absolutely right about the Argies, but it is the best ''window" in SA, so it's worth the trip!
...oh and i think he's 23??

He should have gone to Argentina.

I'm pretty sure that is the right number and don't forget they invited America over to play in some tourney. How much you think they made for that? I agree that Argentina is the best window for a Colombian to make it to Europe, but America isn't going to see any of that money when he gets sold. How much did DIM make when Boca sold Perea to Atlético?

I may be wronng but DIM sold him for like $1.2MM. Mind you Boca made over a $3MM profit for the sale right after, but even on loan it makes sense.

Thing is nobody in Argentina was going to match the offer from the Saudis. It's a shame that he had to go there but it was a wise business decision.

you're missing the point. I know he wouldn't get the same dollars as the Saudis would give them, but I think Herrera was/is this good, where he would be a high priced ticket after a year in Argentina. Then he would be sold for some solid mula after showing his skill level!

YA but who would make the money the Argies or America? If America doesn't work out a deal were they keep some of his rights then who cares what he might of been sold for in Argentina.

If negotiated correctly then America would stand to make the larger profit, or at least split a bu g purse 50-50. I mean let's say for arguments sake, that the guy was brought into River or Racing or a big club. The guy has a tremendous year. He's offered $7-$10MM+, (remember JPA was bought for 9 million pounds after only 1.5 years in River). Even at 50-50, all would leave the table happy. The problem with this deal Sid, is that it serves only a 'short-term' goal for a guy who was in the up and up and already being watched my many clubs. When and if he comes back after 3 years, he'll either be out of form, or injured or his morale completely gone to compete at the same level he was at! I think this decision affected him tremendously downward, as he was null and void in Coap America action.

But the transfer market isn't what it used to be is it? He would need more then one break out year in Argentina to demand that kind of fee. How much did Cavenaghi go for?
Thing is America needed the money now.

I think he went for like $8MM. But he's no Saviola either. And I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree, because America will ALWAYS need money!! It isn't every day that they also get over $1MM like they did for Vargas.

How much did DIM make when Boca sold Perea to Atlético?
I think I remember then talking about Perea on Caracol, that even thought DIM had sold all his rights to Boca, they would profit from the transfer fee that Atlético paid Boca, it was a clause in the contract, that DIM would get some percentage of that transfer fee.......I forget how much tho.
