Would've added this to the overall rumor thread, but it looked like it had moved on to discuss Ali G not Arsenal!

To add to the list of midfielders Arsenal are going to buy, potentially as "replacements" for Vieira :( :

I know little about Hleb as I do not watch much Bundesliga, much less Belarus internationals, but I believe I've seen him play in CL a few times. How might he rate compared to say Mascherano, Xavi, Maniche, Carrick or any number of other midfielders we have been linked with? I know he's been linked with Bayern and ManUre in the past, and is rated highly by many, but isn't he more of a playmaker (as is Maniche) than a "replacement" for Vieira?

Title changed to reflect content. Will be moved to main rumour thread in a day or two. (or when I remember)

Hleb is absolute quality, young, and very creative... Definitely not cover for Vieira, more of a playmaker winger (IMO).. only seen him play a handful of games tho....

Yes, I think him more as a playmaker. Attacking and centrally located though.

I've watched the Bundesliga since he came to Stuttgart and I must say that Hleb would be a weird but great choice. The guy in his good days is just unbelievable. I'm not exagerating when I say he's at Zidane level when everything clicks with the team and him. He is just everywhere at once it seems. Great pace with a never say die attitude. He is a more of a playmaker rather than a holder though.

He'd be a replacement for DB right?

I've only seen him a couple of time but he impressed me each time so...
