SoccerNet (http://www.soccernet.com/global/news/2002/0911/20020911referee.html)Ecuador's controversial World Cup referee Byron Moreno has been suspended for 20 matches and placed under investigation by the South American country's soccer authorities after his controversial handling of a first division match on Sunday.

The losing side, Barcelona of Guayaquil, conceded two goals near the end of the 13 minutes of injury time added by Moreno that allowed hosts Liga de Quito to win 4-3 and their president slammed the referee for allegedly mixing football and politics.

Sad. I thought Moreno was one of the better referees in the world cup till the Italian game.

I was wondering about the 13 minutes of injury time, since the most I've ever seen was 10, and that was in a half with two red cards AND a guy having to be put on life-support before being stretchered off the field (he turned out to be okay). But apparently Mr. Moreno signaled for SIX minutes of time added on, and played thirteen. I can sorta see where there's a problem.
