After slotting the go-ahead goal himself, Reyes was rightly named man-of-the-match. If eighteen other teams in the Premiership are not calling for the "brown trousers" after watching the Henry-Reyes partnership, they soon could be.
Ok, I'm stumped -- "brown trousers"? Is this something us Yanks wouldn't be expected to get, or am I just too old, culture-centric, out of it, or otherwise ignorant to catch it?

Robin van Persie, also 21, a second half substitute, looked a carbon copy of Chelsea's Arjen Robben. Van Persie, however, cost just a fraction of what Roman Abramovich paid for his Dutch flyer.

Nick clearly hit the pubs a bit early.

I would also disagree with that comment. Robben right now is in a class above van Persie. However, I would say Reyes is better than Robben, but I am biased.

We'll see - I can't judge yet since Reyes hasn't played well enough over the course of a season, and we've yet to see what Robben can do in the EPL. Both are obviously phenomenal propsects.

I wasn't even commenting on the quality, but rather on the obvious difference in the positions they play. Van Persie isn't an out and out winger like Robben, and his skill isn't running down the sides of the pitch putting in crosses. Hell, in the Shield Arsenal was lobbing crosses for him to head in! Can you actually see Robben trying a header?

I can see him filling in on the left at times, purely because of he's left-footed, but he hasn't got the pace to skin full-backs and sling crosses in.

As for the article, most of what the author says is pretty spot-on. And with Henry, Pires and Ljungberg yet to get up to full speed there should be even more to come.

I am an Oranje fan and I reallly rate Robben much, but I think van der Vaart is a more complete player. How much did Robben cost again? There haven't been to many bargains at Stamford Bridge besides Kezman. (Cisse vs Drogba?)

Well......over the last year Rafael's game has disappeared to some black hole. He's not a traditional Dutch player, in that he won't comfortably fit into a 4-3-3 of Cruyff's choosing. He's more of a traditional #10. A year ago I'd have agreed with you, but I think since then Robben has moved past Van der Vaart. That being said, van der Vaart is more versatile, since he can play in the center, but it remains to be seen if he can rediscover his form.

Ajax should loan him to Leeds. It did wonders for Jermaine Pennant. Maybe Raf would resurface as a newly-minted Bergkamp.

van der Vaart is more versatile and I think that he is more creative. (flick shot with back of heel against random dutch team) Robben is a pure winger and that is wonderful. He's also a little too dependent on the left foot. That will change though. How much did Robben cost? (too lazy to look up)

I think he ran us something like 9M pounds? Maybe.
He was definitely cheaper than Reyes ;)

Robben actually has a pretty good right foot - I don't know if you caught him interchaning sides with Van der Meyde in the Sweden game. His crosses were far better than VdMs. Although, granted, that's not hard.
