He indicated six minutes of injury time but played 13. Liga de Quito, 3-2 down in the 90th minute, struck after 99 and 101 to win 4-3.
< snip >
What adds spice to the brew is the fact that the ref is a candidate for October elections in which he could win a place on Quito's city council.
Holy ****!

I wonder if that italian guy who was suing the ref will get some help from the board of Barcelona of Guayaquil in bringing this retcherd tyrant down to the full extent of the law.
The aftermatch football phone in would of been been entertaining though. this guy is fast making a name for himself i say we should bring him to england and let him ref the FA cup final. Oh how joyfull that will be to watch

I was at the Korea-Italy game and now after reading this story I'm not so sure about things that occurred in that game. First, I always questioned the second yellow as a former referee (24 years) you at that point let the players determine the result, at least that is what I was always taught and what I tried to do. The offside was the AR's call and again as a former refereee unless I was in a better position to see the offside I go with the AR. Those 2 calls IMHO did not turn the game, Italy had plenty of chances to finish Korea off in regulation and they fell back into a defensive shell and let Korea back in the match
Now with that said and having lived in Korea on and off for 6 years and knowing how corrupt this place is (they could give Enron some lessons) I wouldn't be suprised if somebody here approached Moreno or his AR's and made the attempt. The Korean mafia is very active here (especially here in Gwangju) and given how cheating is engrained in the Korean culture (you have to see my univ students). With this revelation I'm now not so sure we saw an honest world cup. Remember the Korean victory over Spain occured here in Gwangju HQ for the Korean mafia. Yeah this does sound like an Oliver Stone movie but any way-gook believes it.
I hope this wasn't the result but given what I know about Korea and now what Moreno did in Ecuador I have some serious doubts

I thought it was Referees assistant, a bit different.

Moreno also refereed the USA v. Portugal match. In that one, I thought he did a good job. I recently watched it again and he didn't do anything out of the ordinary. Of couse, my anecdote doesn't prove anything, but I'm just throwing it out there.
What other matches did he referee?
Incidentally, he was VERY critical of Collina for appearing in the Addidas "Footballitis" ad. Something about not using stature as a referee for personal gain.

The idea is the same.
They are now called Assitant Refs and not linesmen to get across the idea that THEY ARE REFS!!!
It also means that Moreno had to uphold the AR's call unless he himself was in a better position.

If Vieri hadn't missed that sitter I could have scored with my arse, none of the Italy vs. S. Korea nonsense would have happened. Italy were negative and complacent as per usual, and got caught out. They should accept defeat gracefully.

u taught in a univ in gwangjoo?? thats like teaching in a community college.
we modeled our nation after the US due to their "influence" with everything in our government.. and i guess corruption was just one of the things we learned...
at least we dont shoot ppl randomly off the streets

Byron Moreno is a shi# ref.
He should have given Tomassi a yellow card for showboating after the offsides call was made. The ref blew the whistle what must have been 10 minutes before tomassi stopped playing through.
but I've moved on.

Don't forget the Ahn's missed PK opportunity
early in the game either.
Had that gone it we would have seen different
Italy the rest of the game.......
Would Korea have won at the end? I don't know...
but it would have been a totally different game altogether, that's for sure.
