I have heard several times that AW has a highly detailed diet and training schedule for each of the players. I recall times in the past where players have been fined and disciplined for breaking the dietary rules. I have several questions about this. The most obvious is, is this really true?

Assuming it is, does anyone have any additional information on how the diet plan is developed and by whom?

In addition, does anyone know how training is conducted. The London Times (I will try to find the link) last year said that each of the players has an individualized development program in addition to the team training that is done.

According to the article, AW has chosen players for overall athleticism (speed, etc.) rather than purely on the basis of demonstrated soccer prowess and developed them according to their individual development plans to gain the best from them.

It is a philosophy that in essence says you can take an outstanding and properly motivated athlete with reasonable skills and create an outstanding player from him. Skills can be taught, and a high level of athleticism provides the basis for this further development.

It appears to me that this can be seen in the team today where outstanding athletes who came to Arsenal without a great track record of football success have been transformed into the outstanding team of today. I think this description fits Henry and Vieira and many others as well. All of them have blossomed under the Arsenal system. It does seems to me that Arsenal has the best team speed and endurance of any team in the EPL, if not in all of Europe.

So, after that long ramble, what specifics does anyone know about how the player development is handled at Arsenal? Are there references or a specific company that helps with this?

There's an article every month in the Official Arsenal Magazine featuring the training staff and the club nutritionist. It includes recipes as well, so it's like Good Housekeeping, except, you know, much better.

Dave, be sure to vary your training methods as the season progresses. Start with some light Bud to build up your fitness, change to Guinness during the winter break for some heavy duty stuff, while finally moving to the champaigne when the season ends with all the silverware. :D

I'd prefer to start with green bud  that might relax me a little more as I sit through these games. No Light beer that's for girls. If I'm going to buy a beer I want it to have taste to it. Maybe start with some London's Pride and move into Guinness after two weeks and stay there until we break out the champaigne. That works. Not too fat not too lazy.

There was an article with Freddie that said that when he first came to the club, Wenger wouldn't let them eat after a certain time. About 2 hours after they ate, Freddie was in his hotel room starving and ordered room service. He said Wenger got on him the next day because he checks every player's room bill to make sure they've done what they are supposed to.
