Sporting FC president and manager Sir wesley useche held a press confrence a couple of minutes ago revealing the sale of purse the backup defender from west brom valued at 4.0 and the aquisition of Thatcher of machester city at 4.5 the new substitute defender of Sporting FC Colombia Sir wesley said "Thatcher is a great addition to our defensive lineup and allows us to hold a great defensive team even if one of our main defenders gets injured" he also stated to the reports from the press that his midfield is lacking "i have not noticed it lacking but we are going over our team and considering the proposistion of releasing yakubu and adquiring a better defensive mid player"

With so much trash talking and boasts of top squads dominating our posts, I asked Kopiteinkc to come over to the Very Small Rocks division and rate our teams :) This should add controversy to what is already becoming a good healthy exchange of confidence (Tomvandman in particular, who should be thanking the stars he got Henry with the 4th pick!) and insecurity (United Forever: dont worry be happy)
HERE ARE THE UPDATED SQUADS AS OF 3:30 pm. If I missed a transfer, I apologize but I think I got everything (I just added Montreal's patriotic transfer  )
Looking forward to the analysis (the ones for the Small Rocks squads are excellent)

I'll try as invited to analyze each team, don't take it too seriously and we'll be fine
1.The Class Acts (United Forever)
Van Der Saar, Fulham, Goalkeeper, 5.5
Crossley, Goalkeeper, Fulham, 4.5
Strong season last year for Van de Saar made him the top points getter in goal. A solid start for Fulham should ease any worries here.
Boyce, C Palace,3.0, Defender
Brennan, Defender, Norwich, 3.5
Carvahlo, Defender, Chelsea, 7.0
Cooper, Defender, Middlesbrough, 4.0
Mellberg, Aston Villa, Defender, 5.5
Mellberg gets good points for low value, Carvahlo should do well at chelsea as they concede few goals. The rest are bench warmers.
J. Okocha, Midfielder, Bolton, 7.5
Watson, Midfielder, Everton, 5.5
Hitzlperger, Midfield, Aston Villa, 6.0
C. Ronaldo, Man U, Midfield, 9.0
Dunn, Midfielder, Birmingham, 7.5
Solid midfield with Watson, Okocha and Hitslperger all capable of goals. Ronaldo needs to get back from Athens quickly and Dunn needs to heal
Van Nistelrooy, Man. United, Forward, 11.5
Kezman, Chelsea, Forward, 10.5
Stead, Forward, Blackburn, 7.5
Great forward line barring RVN's injury. Mistake not to draft Henry IMO. Kezman and Stead could be steals of the draft.
Overall: Mid to high table if RVN, Dunn and Ronaldo show up and produce.
Montréal United
09 Aug 2004, 04:45 PM
I just got a notice from the city of Montreal asking to remove its name from my team nomenclature as they believe the prospect of the team is too bad to reflect well on the city.
Thus, I'll change my team name to "Association sportive de Saint-Lambert" or ASSL for those who find it too long.

2. Ajax Rick James FC (Dutchfootballrulez)
Given, Goalkeeper, Newcastle, 6.0
Hislop, Goalkeeper, Portsmouth, 4.5
Solid goalies, Given is a given so to speak! :D
Hreidarrsson, Defender, Charlton, 6.0
Chambers, Defender, West Brom, 3.0
Symons, Crystal Palace, Defender, 3.0
Samuel, Aston Villa, Defender 6.0
Yobo, Defender, Everton, 5.0
Can Hreidarsson repeat last year's point total, you will have to hope so as Samuel is the only other reliable point getter. Everton concede too many goals for my liking -- well actually I love it when they concede goals but that's a personal preference. This back line is a little thin for my tastes.
Campo, Midfield, Bolton, 6.0
Robben, Midfield, Chelsea, 9.0
Emerton, Midfielder, Blackburn, 7.5
Tugay, Blackburn, Midfielder, 6.5
Riihilahti, Midfielder, Crystal Palace, 4.5
Strong midfield with Riihilahti the obvious weak link, that forces you tro play the 3rd defender instead of a 2-5-3. Usually better to play 5 middies. Two Blackburn players in midfield is worrisome, they lose, so do you.
Alan Smith, Man Utd, Forward, 9.5
Shearer, Forward, Newcastle, 11.0
Beattie, Forward, Southampton, 9.0
Strong front 3, especially Shearer and Beattie. Smith is questionable as he will be fighting to get in the team when RVN comes back.
Overall: Mid to low table, riding Shearer and Beattie's success may push them up. hampered by a weak defense and middle of the road midfield.

3. Sporting-FC (Ilovecolumbia)
Taylor, Goalkeeper, Birmingham, 5.5
Gallagher, Goalkeeper, Norwich, 3.0
Relatively weak in goal, depending on Birmingham to keep clean sheets all season is a tough one.
Thatcher, Defender, Man City, 4.5
Laursen, Aston Villa, Defender, 5.5
Gary Neville, Defender, Man U, 7.0
Gallas, Defender, Chelsea, 7.0
Southgate, Defender, Middlesbrough, 6.5
I mentioned earlier that Southgate is the rock here, Laursen should be good for points, as will Neville and Gallas. Very strong defenders. Thatcher on the bench for cover.
Giggs, Man U, Midfield, 9.5
Holland, Midfield, Charlton, 7.0
Vieira, Midfielder, Arsenal, 8.5
Borrowdale, Midfielder, Crystal Palace, 4.0
Dyer, Midfield, West Bromwich, 4.0
Giggs and Holland solid points getters, but you had better hope Vieira stays otherwise you're sunk. Borrowdale and Dyer (West Brom not Newcastle) offer nothing where midfield scores lots of points. Glaring weakness here.
Saha, Man U, Forward, 10.5
Yakubu, Portsmouth, Forward, 8.0
Angel, Forward, Aston Villa, 9.5
Solid if not spectacular front three. Will it be saha or smith for Man U when RVN comes back? Can Angel stay fit.
Overall: The poor midfield leaves this team languishing near the bottom.

4. TVD Phenomenons (tomvandamn)
Murphy, Goalkeeper, West Bromich, 3.0
Niemi, Goalkeeper, Southampton, 5.0
Reasonable to solid choice in Niemi. No back-up to speak of so let's hope he stays fit.
Shackwell, Defender, Norwich, 3.0
Briggs, Defender, Norwich, 3.0
Powell, Defender, Crystal Palace, 3.0
N’Gotty, Defender, Bolton, 5.0
Dodd, Defender, Southampton, 5.5
Weak set of defenders with NGotty and Dodd relied on in an obvious 2-5-3. But if the Saints lose, the goalie and one defender lose points.
Izzet, Midfield, Birmingham, 7.5
Zenden, Midfield, Middlesbrough, 7.0
Wright Phillips, Midfield, 7.5
Scholes, Man U, Midfield, 9.5
Duff, Midfield, Chelsea, 9.5
Very strong midfield, you need Duff to recover and be fit and raring to go, his injury worries will carry on all season long. But you have good cover in SWP, Scholes, Zenden and to a certain extent Izzet.
Henry, Arsenal, Forward, 13.0
Cisse, Forward, Liverpool, 10.0
Defoe, Forward, Tottenham 8.5
Could be an incredible high scoring front line. Henry needs no praise from me, how the hell you got him as fourth pick is beyond me.
Overall: Outright fave to win this league. Only the defenders and Duff's fraility can let you down. The other managers had their heads up their arses while you got those early picks!! :D

5. Windsor Wanderers (subbeto)
Kiely, Goalkeeper, Charlton, 5.0
Green, Goalkeeper, Norwich, 4.0
Reasonable enough goalie with a starting back up. So not bad at all.
Ferriera, Defender, Chelsea, 7.0
Stefanovic, Defender, Portsmouth, 4.5
King, Defender, Tottenham, 6.0
Stubbs, Defender, Everton, 4.5
Delaney, Defender, Aston Villa, 5.5
Solid choices at the back will be consistent but not super high scoring. King could be a stand out as could Ferriera.
Pires, Midfield, Arsenal, 10.5
Keane, Midfield, Man. United, 7.5
Pembridge, Midfield, Fulham, 5.5
Jensen, Midfield, Fulham, 6.5
Rommendahl, Midfield, Charlton, 7.0
Pires -- top points getter in midfield last season and will probably captain this side. Unmatched class. Keane did well last year but does get the odd yellow and should score more. Rommedahl is an interesting choice, unproven in the EPL, time will tell. Solid Mids.
Davies, Forward, Bolton, 7.5
Kanoute, Forward, Tottenham, 8.0
Drogba, Forward, Chelsea, 11.0
A weak spot I think, Davies will be a marked man this time out, can Kanoute play once Robbie Keane comes back or will it be defoe who drops out. Drogba is unproven also, a little risky perhaps.
Overall: Certainly a talented all round team, high table. Will compete for first if Pires shines and a forward or two finds consistent form.

09 Aug 2004, 05:06 PM
6. KC Dynamo (Helghallen)
Howard, Man U, Goalkeeper, 6.0
Jerzy Dudek, Goalkeeper, Liverpool, 6.5
Two very solid goalies and if Dudek doesn't start then Howard will.
Unsworth, Defender, Portsmouth, 5.0
Goma, Defender, Fulham, 5.0
Higginbotham, Defender, Southampton, 4.5
Bocanegra, Defender, Fulham, 5.0
Kishishev, Defender, Charlton, 5.0
Solid point scorers, no break out players but solid nonetheless, should cover for injuries well.
Gerrrard, Midfield, Liverpool, 9.5
Lazaridis, Midfield, Birmingham, 5.5
Fernandes, Midfield, Southampton, 5.5
Greening, Midfield, West Bromich, 5.5
Telfer, Midfielder, Southampton, 5.5
Gerrard doesn't score enough but with Cisse avaialble he may well up his assist tally. Fernandes needs to play more. Greening and Lazaridis are effective assist getters without being spectacular. Good solid cheap pick ups.
Owen, Forward, Liverpool, 10.0
Anelka, Forward, Man City, 10.0
Rooney, Forward, Everton, 10.0
Immense forward line, Rooney is still injured so you have an extra defender play for a while. Let's hope "Shrek" gets back to playing soon, England needs him too :D
Overall: Solid if not spectacular team. Midtable. Higher if Gerrard and Owen link up and score aplenty.

09 Aug 2004, 05:11 PM
7. FC Springfield (ibreak4coffee)
Berthelin, Goalkeeper, Crystal Palace, 3.0
Sorensen, Goalkeeper, Aston Villa, 5.5
Sorensen is solid, but if he goes down, venture to the TL for cover.
Ashley Cole, Defender, Arsenal, 7.5
Hyypia, Defender, Liverpool, 7.5
Reiziger, Defender, Middlebrough, 6.0
Helveg, Defender, Norwich, 4.5
Charlton, Defender, Norwich, 4.0
Excellent choices in Hyypia and Cole. Lots of points there. Reiziger should snag some points too. Good D!
Kewell, Midfield, Liverpool, 9.5
Nolan, Midfield, Bolton, 7.0
Ljungberg, Midfield, Arsenal, 9.0
Mendieta, Midfield, Middlesborough, 8.0
Mulryne, Midfielder, Norwich, 4.0
All but Mulryne are solid effective points scorers. You may have to sacrifice one of your 9.0 or 9.5 players to beef up a crucial 5th mid position.
Forssell, Forward, Birmingham, 9.5
Kluviert, Forward, Newcastle, 10.0
Freedman, Forward, Crystal Palace, 5.0
Forsell will do well, Kluivert is unproven in the EPL and will he start ahead of Bellamy? Freedman is a waste.
Overall: Excellent D sacrifices some points scoring in midfield and up front. Mid to low table unless the D scores a lot of goals. Go Sami Hyypia! :D

8. Montreal United (Jean-Michel)
Jaaskelainen, Goalkeeper, Bolton, 4.5
Hoult, Goalkeeper, West Bromich, 4.0
Two solid keepers.
Terry, Defender, Chelsea, 7.5
Bernard, Defender, Newcastle, 6.5
Bridge, Defender, Chelsea, 7.5
Clement, Defender, West Bromich, 3.5
Popovic, Defender, Crystal Palace, 3.0
Bridge and terry should get you the points you need.
Lampard, Midfield, Chelsea, 10.0
Malbranque, Midfield, Fulham, 9.0
Robert, Midfield, Newcastle, 8.5
Savage, Midfield, Birmingham, 6.0
Gregam, Midfield, West Bromwich, 4.5
Lampard and Steed are excellent, can Robert still produce?? Big question there. savage needs to stay out of card trouble.
Radzinski, Forward, Fulham, 7.5
Bent, Forward, Everton, 7.0
Hasselbaink, Forward, Boro, 10.0
Weak front line, all three are new to their clubs and will need some time fit in. Doing this with one player is ok, but all 3!!
Overall: Mid to high table as middies will keep you up there. Forwards need to do really well though.

I like my cheap keepers. I wanted Van der Sar, but missed out. Robert will produce (if not I'll fly to the Toon and kick his ass myself). My strikers might not even be the same tomorrow. That's how much I like them.

Ah Mark.... the anti-kluviert bandwagon continues :) Seriously, if you can score in the Liga, you can definitely score in the premiership, where defense is optional and only 5-8 squads have a decent back four. Plus, he's good at headers, which as Alan Shearer has proved is all you need to know how to do to be successful in the premiership (which is why Shearer never left the EPL either...). Once he starts potting goals and setting up Shearer, I'll be solid everywhere on my team!!!!!
If not, I swallow my pride and pick up another striker! ;) (Baros is still available, and if it starts soon...)
