I know this will never happen due to club and other country commitments but I was just thinking how cool it would be to have a cup competition that would involve the USA, Canada, England, Scotland, Wales, N Ireland, Ireland, Oz and NZ.
Maybe call it the Colonial Cup!!
What are your thoughts?

There is already too much fixture congestion in the football calendar.

I doubt that many people in Ireland would like to be part of an English speaking 'COLONIAL CUP'

- Discriminating soley on the basis of language is the most ridiculously exclusionary proposal for creating a competition I have ever heard.
- The idea of calling it the Colonial Cup is insulting and outdated to the teams which would be invited.
- There are already far too many international competitions.
- The countries mentioned span 3 confederations, and would be working without the help of FIFA to coordinate 3 seperate sets of WCQ schedules, Confederation Championships and FIFA tournaments in order to fit in another event. There is no body suitable to run the event and there is no single entity who would supply the funding for it.
That's all I can think of at present, but I'm sure there's more problems. Sorry, but it would never happen and I wouldn't want it to happen anyway.

I've always thought football should be included in the Commonwealth Games, but I think this Colonial Cup is a stupid idea. And if the teams who would compete in this competition were to be picked because they speak English, then how would you decide which ones would take part? There are loads of English-speaking countries, and all could not compete. I would like to see the return of the 'Home Nations' competitions, which included England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

You would of course have to add the other English speaking countries, such as India, Pakistan, Canada, Jamaica, Trinidad, Virgin Islands, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, I tell you what lets just have the world cup and hope all the English speakers qualify

We could just have the Commonwealth Cup - so we wouldn't have to invite the Irish who spat the dummy out over that a bit ago.
So that'll be another tournament they haven't got a chance of winning.

Well no it wouldn't include most of those countries but English isn't the official language of most of them...at least I don't think it is.
Yep guess it's a pretty bad idea but I still wish the US played England more often and it would be cool to see Oz and Canada play the US and England too. So I guess that's why I thought of it as a good idea at first. Oh well.

You'd be surprised where English is the official language. Often it's merely a common language between areas of the country - example, India.
Most of the Caribbean is English speaking too.
As for the African countries, I would suggest that English is at least one of the official languages alongside whatever it is they spoke before we came a nicked their country.

It is a good idea, Australia, USA, and others should get together and have games, it is the only way that the influence of the major confederations will be undermind

They just finished the Ibero games for nations that speak just Spanish and Portuguese.

We could have the Indo-European Cup. Who needs the Estonians, anyway?

And if I am not mistaken, Canada takes part in these games based on its minority Quebecois population (plus Francophones in a few other provinces).

Well, French is one of the two official languages of Canada.
La Francophonie is basically the Commonwealth but mostly for former French colonies. It also contains non-francophone countries like Romania. It's more a political organization to centralize sucking up to France, like the Commonwealth is for sucking up to Britain. Much more than anything linguistic, sporting or cultural.
