If not for the Reds' bullpen Paul Wilson would be a legitimate Cy Young candidate.

Flyer Fan posted this in the FFA, and I think that brings out a great question. Who wins the NL Cy Young as of right now?

I have Jason Schmidt just barely edging out Roger Clemens.

Gagne blew a save. Rules him out.

If Glavine wasn't sporting an 8-9 record and actually got some run support from his team I'd be going with him.

My heart says Rheal Cormier, but my head says Jason Schmidt.

Trevor Hoffman should have one (not based on this year's performance though).

schmidt has to be the clear frontrunner right now, but cy young awards are generally won during the final third of the season

The best NL pitcher is Randy Johnson, but he's getting no run or relief pitching support. Glavine has similar problems. At this point, I'd say Schmidt will win.

I don't see when. 1998? I'd take Glavine any day.

It's amazing how well he's doing this year. The lack of run support has severely damaged his chances of winning 300, which is a real shame. We might not see another 300 game winner for 10-20 years.

Leiter has been amazing as well. Leads the majors in ERA by a good margin.

Right now, though, I think I'd give it to Ben Sheets.

Jason Schmidt hands down...and he does it with a lineup that only has Sir Walkalot.

2 R. Johnson, Ari .566
3 T. Glavine, NYM .623
4 B. Sheets, Mil .636
5 A. Leiter, NYM .640

Schmidt is injured now. Will that hurt his chance of getting the Cy Young? It will sure as hell hurt the Giants reach the playoffs, hahaha! I shouldn't be talking cause I know the Padres won't reach then either :(
