I don't see how he could be a first-team player at Arsenal. I actually hope we do not sign him.

Really think that this should be taken with a pinch of salt. It is not going to happen. Maybe a way for West Ham to get more money out of Pompey, Carrick to get a better wage, who knows. But this transfer will not happen. I'll wear a Spurs shirt for a day if it does... (there's a rubbish dump nearby, should be able to find one there.. :D )

We have had players in our youth system that we have let move on that are better than Carrick.

When I saw him the season before the Hammers went down he actually had quite a good game against us, I think if he did sign he'd just be a squad player unless he played amazingly well. He's quite young though, does anyone know his age?

this is usually the sort of speculation wenger wud just discard

"If we sign Michael Carrick, it could happen even if Patrick stays - but nothing has been done on that front though." Arsene Wenger

he must be considering something?

If you guys dont want him please tell Arsene before the deal is finalised. I agree it would be hard too see where he fits in to the Arsenal line up (on the bench or in the ressies I guess). He would be guaranteed first team footy at Pompey and who knows maybe he could push back in to England reckoning with some regular Prem football.
Also he's 23 apparently.

a) Any of the players released over the past 3 years. Seriously if he was a good standard more than Palace and Pompey would want him. No offence to those clubs of course, but they arn't and he is not in our league.

b) Trust me the top would have to be very dirty, but I have no doubt there will not be any need to go that far.......

c) To be honest I very much doubt that Wenger would of said that comment. It certainly wasn't at today's press conferance. Carrick was mentioned, but only in passing. It was ignored. I have never heard Wenger say he loves a player who is rumoured to be coming. It's not Arsene's way.

d) I'll be there for the god know's how many time in the past few years. It's a good day out at the bars opposite the Marriot, but I don't believe in friendlies against Man U.

I would rather have Carrick than that Argie..

I would rather have Carrick than that Argie..Why's that? So he can keep company with that other overrated young English player, Jeffers, during reserve matches? Maybe they could contact Richard Wright and Matthew Upson and all meet at a pub for a pint (or 5) and commisserate about why things just didn't work out at Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Kolo will continue going to pray right after practice, Reyes will maintain his self-imposed 10 o'clock bedtime, and all the England-first fans will whine and wonder why Arsene doesn't give these promising young English players a chance.

Hopefully the Carrick interest is just a ploy to get River Plate to accept the offer. I would much rather have the Argie.....

No need to get another overrated English player like Jeffers. Now if Carrick is going to be as good as Lampard. Than I would be down, but from what everone is writing, it seems that he isnt all that great.

Oh shut up, most of the english lads haven't been given a proper chance.

I just don't want him playing for Arsenal, I don't think he will adapt to the english game, he's better suited for the Spanish or Italian league.

While Carrick has been one of my favourite young players ever.

Stop comparing every english players to Jeffers you ********ing muppet.
