Klinsi is going to announce the 23-man German National Team lineup next week.
How do you guys think it should go?
Here's mine:
GK-Kahn, Hildebrand, Lehmann
DF-Lahm, Hinkel, Friedrich, Huth, Metzelder, Rau, Görlitz
MF-Baumann, Ballack, Freier, Deisler, Schweinsteiger, Frings, Fritz, Hitzlsperger
ST-Kuranyi, Podolski, Klose, Hanke, Auer

I think we have better options than those two.

Well, fine per Brdaric. . .but Metzelder is unhealthy and Wörns can mark anybody.

HUTH HAHAHAHAH youre kidding

The hell I'm kidding! Huth is an exceptional defender. Watch him play for Chelsea.
I completely forgot Wörns! I confused him with Nowotny.
My bad.
I think Metzelder should be training lightly though.

How many minutes will Schweinsteiger get this year for Bayern, I guess he won't be starting, will he?

Keith's Response: Schweinsteiger will more than likely see most of his playing time this season against "lower" Bundesliga competition and in the DFB Pokal (German Cup). Especially with the apparant re-emergence of Sebastian Deisler.

Rau is too weak. He has no business playing for Germany. Wörns is injured.

I hope he will, but it looks he only has a chance to play consistently if Magath decides to play with only one striker upfront (Makaay), and with 5 midfielders.

Could look like:

Kahn - Görlitz (Sagnol), Demichelis (Kovac), Lucio, Salihamidzic (Rau) - Schweinsteiger, Deisler (Hargreaves), Ballack, Frings, Ze Roberto (Scholl) - Makaay.

This new midfield diamond Magath has formed will likely see Schweinsteiger with hardly any playing time provided Deisler remains fit.

Is a pity, but I rather see Basti Fantasti finally break out and perform to his exceptional talent.

Gregoriak: Magath has mentioned that he doesn't favour a one striker set up.

Gregoriak: Magath has mentioned that he doesn't favour a one striker set up.

Right, but if Santacruz keeps on playing substandardly, he will have no other choice - Zickler is no option, Pizzarro will be injured for quite a while and Scholl too is too injury-prone. There`s still Hashemian, but if he fails, then a 2-striker system would be a waste of 1 player.

Magath may also field a 3-men defense, which could look like this:

Kahn - Kuffour, Lucio, Kocac - Görlitz (Sagnol), Schweinsteiger (Demichelis), Ballack, Deisler (Scholl), Ze Roberto - Makaay, Hashemian (Santacruz)

But even if he keeps on playing 4-4-2, maybe Ze Roberto could be tried as a left back, instead of Salihamidzic or the completely out-of-form Rau.

Kahn - Görlitz, Demichelis, Lucio, Ze Roberto - Schweinsteiger, Deisler, Ballack, Frings - Makaay, Hashemian

So there are some options where Schweinsteiger could be playing even if Deisler remains fit (which I doubt, btw, I`m sure he`ll get badly injured again sometime this season - it`s like a law of nature).

Schweinsteiger will play a lot more this season than he did last season. Magath concentrates on the youth, and Bayern have a lot of potential in youth. Sure, Schweinie won't start every game but he sure as hell won't be warming the bench all season long.

As for the German team. I think Klinsman has to completely revamp the team and go for the younger players to get them ready for the World Cup. He can't be relying on geezers like Worms or Novotny any longer, even if Christian is a great man on man defender. Huth is indeed an exceptional player, he is strong, very decisive and also a great man on man defender. It's too bad that Mourinho won't be starting him too often with Chelsea because of those damn Portugese defenders he bought. Huth should move to a team that would give him plenty of starts. He isn't to be taken lightly as a class defender. I don't think Germany has any problems with their defense, plenty of great young players there.

As for the midfield, this is an area where Klinsie has to think of youth especially. This is where the plays and chances get generated. This is where that freshness and energy will come into play. I think he should definetly include and even start Schweinsteiger and Hitlsperger. Then you have Frings, Ballack and Deisler. Now that's a great midfield.

Still skeptical about the strikeforce. He should definetley see how Podolski and Auer are working out.

I don't think there would be THAT big changes to the EM...

Kahn, Lehmann, Hildebrand
Lahm, Hinkel, Friedrich, Nowotny, Woerns, Goerlitz, Ziege
Baumann, Deisler, Freier, Schweinsteiger, Frings, Rahn, Ernst, Schneider
Kuranyi, Lauth, Klose, Bobic, Brdaric

Dude, the biggest factor in our early exit from Euro 2004 was because we were playing the old and dry players instead of the fresh young talent we have in ABUNDANCE. Changes must be made.

Actually i disagree with you there, i believe the decisive factor was that the nationalmannschaft simply dont have good enough strikers. A lucky goal by Frings against the Dutch, nothing against Latvia and a tremendous goal by Ballack in Czech game, but nothing by Kuranyi, nothing by Klose, nothing by Bobic and nothing by Brdaric. Maybe if Podolski had played things would be different, but he didnt.

Anyway, my line up would be:
Goalkeepers : Kahn, Hildebrand, Wiese
Defense : Hinkel, Lahm, Friedrich, Wörns, Metzelder, Rau, Görlitz
Midfield : Baumann, Ballack, Diesler, Schweinsteiger, Frings, Ramelow, Schneider, Nowotny
Attack : Kuranyi, Klöse, Podolski, Brdaric and Klinnsmann and Bierhoff might as well put themselves on the team.

I agree that Hitzlsperger deserves his chance with the national team. He played great for Villa and should get his full chance with the national team.

I would like to see Lauth given a shot too. He has battled injuries, but is stilla good young talent.

Huth and Hitlesperger have to play. They are great in the EPL and can bring elements from that great league to the german national side. Haman is getting old and is starting to wear off.

Keith's Response: IMHO, Lauth is nothing more than a creation of the German media just as Miro Klose was. They are pretty much the same player. They both feed off the "lower teams". I'm not very much impressed with Lauth at all.

I believe the best young German strikers are Kuranyi and Podolski.

JMHO ;-)

Kurnayi is missing something. I can't quite put my finger on it. He's a good striker but somethings just not there. He feels a bit imcomplete in my eyes. Anyone else share this notion?
