So much for the vote of confidence Western Bulldogs president David Smorgon gave coach Peter Rohde a fortnight ago.

Rohde paid the ultimate price for compiling just eight wins in two seasons at the helm of the western Melbourne club with his own job.

No eventual successor has been named; however, Rohde has been asked to see out the last four rounds of the season. (Something which I think is rather debatable, as to its motivations and effectiveness.)

Rohde is the fourth AFL coach to lose his job this season, after there were no sackings league-wide last year.

Isn't that the ultimate bad sign if you're a coach, having the President come out and say the board is right behind you... right behind you with the knife more like it!

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the players paid the ultimate price for the club's poor onfield performances at the end of the season as well. It's easy to say the buck stops with the coach but the players must also take responsibility for what has happened.

I'm tipping whoever takes over at Whitten Oval will have a fairly big clean out of "dead wood" at the club.
