I'm just making a story thread where people can write about their gruesome injuries they've received or seen, whilst playing football. Also how it happened how long it took to heal and on a scaled of 1-10 (10 being the highest) How much pain they were in. This may strike people as a weird thread but i've had so many injuries in my time, i think i'm immune to seeing bones stick through skin, (normally my own).

It really does freak you out!

interesting thread

I accidentally kneed my own goalkeeper in a match. He had to get metal plates in his head. He was on the state ODP team for goalkeeper and as a field player, but was never quite the same after that in the head (well duh, I guess). I think he had a brief stint at VCU followed by a brief pro career in Cost Rica.

My knee swelled up really big...like the size of a softball. But I never was sent to the trainer and didn't miss any matches. I guess it was just fluid that went away

Teammate that was in a shin to shin tackle (before shin guards were mandatory) and he is screaming at the top of his lungs. He tries to get up and part of his lower leg is just hanging by skin. He passes out. His shin bone snapped totally in half. This guy was a great player and never recovered with all of the surgeries he had.

Some poor kid got slide tackled at my middle school years ago during a PE match and broke his leg. They say he flew pretty far then landed and it snapped like a twig. He never played soccer again.

Ive never broken a limb.

Playing on a crap field I was cutting across the middle of the field pretty fast when I hit a good 6 inch rut. My ankle basically imploded. My foot went all the way over and I went down in a heap. Screamed every curse word I knew in English and Spanish and even made a few new ones up. Hurt like a mother....

Last September I shattered a section my fibula, dislocated my ankle, broke my talus(bone in your ankle that holds the socket together) and ruptured my ankle ligements all from one guy tackling me from behind in a college game.

I have a 9 inch plate in my leg right now because of it and 7 screws are holding it on, this September I am having the plate taken out though because it's very painful when I try and play becasue of the stress it creates on the bone.

On a pain scale of 1-10 it was off the charts becasue there was so much damage at on time in one small area, I have recoved pretty well so far and once this plate comes out i fully expect to be able to be the same player I was before the injury.

BTW I am now friends with the guy the made the tackle that nearly ended my career.

In the last two years I've personally seen Chris Armas, Milton Reyes and Steffi Jones blow out their ACL's. I also got to see Ronnie O'Brien's leg get broken.

In terms of actually participating in a game, when I was in little league U-10 soccer, two players collided in practice, one of whom wrecked his knee and was out for the year; the other suffered a severe concussion and only played the last game.

Dislocated my foot then proceeded to fall on it breaking my tib-fib and a whole lot of bones in my ankle. Probably a lot of damage to my tendons and ligaments but im not so sure. Id give the pain a 8. I also managed to mess up the ball that my foot slipped off of...the bladder came up in between the panels. Took about 12 weeks to heal up after this one.

This thread makes me wince in pain with each entry.

Lucky for me the worst I've ever had is a sprained ankle.

I saw this thread and couldn't pass it up. I've had so many injuries, but all minor. The current one is a torn meniscus, so that's not bad.

The worst I've ever seen is not soccer related, but I'm sure it will freak you all out. A weight lifter was trying to pick up a little too much, and he he tried so hard that he ugh... pushed out his organs, if you get what I mean. Someone took a picture of it, and it's online, the guy's intestines were hanging out of his rear. So gross!

Also, I manage my high school wrestling team, and 2 guys (different matches) were twisted wrong and dislocated their elbows. The snap could be heard over the crowd, and that snap was followed by screams of pain.

As for soccer injuries, the worst I've seen was Chris Klein's ACL tear.

I played professional football for a premier league youth team until i dislocated my foot and broke my ankle right before i was about to find out my future at the club. Ive never been able to play to a high standard since. I did it in training in an accidental collision and ive never felt pain like that in my life. Apparently my foot was facing round the other side.

A few years back a goalie slid into back netting on a save, and the spike holding down the netting pierced his side, and had him pinned to the ground. He couldn't be moved for quite a while, as medical personal tried to figure out best method of extraction. I don't recall which league (either American minor leagues or Europe, but I believe the former)...

when i was overseas playing, one of the opposing teams players stubbed both his inside feet on the grass, so he was like duck footed, and he dislocated both of his hips.

One kid I played against took a real hard charlie horse to the lower thigh from some else's knee. The kid was screaming all the way until the ambulance came. My school's trainer said that when he arrived at the hospital his thigh was the size of a basketball. The hospital drained out the swelling a bit and sent him home with some painkillers, and told him that the swelling would get better and that he would be fine. But it didn't get better. The kid had to go back to the ER, and they sliced his leg open. My trainer said he talked to the doctor who treated the kid and he said when he cut his leg open, blood just burst out of it, and drenchd his entire upper body in blood. I don't know if the kid got past that injury, but goddamn I hope so.
