The worst thing that happened to me was being sidelined several weeks from tenosynovitis from over-training.. Very painful and just walking a few feet was hard..
http://www.medinfo.co.uk/conditions/tenosynovitis.html
The worst in a game was a college match were I mis-judged a long kick from a keeper and caught it on the very top of my head for which I was sent to the hospital and told I had a concussion and didn't play again for about 2 weeks though I don't know what made for that judgement on time.. I guess that was a freak one as hitting a long ball with the wrong part of the head is not that rare but it sure knocked me for a loop that time though not out.. :o

One of my funnier breaks was when the ball was loose and this kid looked at me and i looked at him both went for it n he slid in 2 footed n i would have been killed cos i was going to run in, in the space of a second i yelled 'bastard' and went in 2 footed aswell, and managed to get a nice clean break of my fibula, he broke both bones and was rollin around cryin and being the tough guy i am i tried to get up and failed then asked to be subbed and went to hospital. Pretty cool.
Another was in yr 5 at my school i was like 10 and i went in to belt the ball and this other kid got his plant foot in the wrong place and i kicked the ball and followed through into his leg which consequently broke and he fell over, cos he was much smaller, i tapped him on the head and said sorry thinking that he'd be okay and ran off to see my teammates cos i was dead proud, then when they said he had a broken bone, i went to hospital to see him, then a week later ended up in the bed next to him lol when i got hit by a car. Justice?

Now that I remember, I had one incident that wasn't an injury, but it sure as hell hurt.
In a very heated game, I was real riled up, and another kid had the ball, so I decided to wind up and kick at the ball as hard as I could. Just before I was about to hit the ball he kicked it away, so the upper front of my ankle slammed right into his. I felt like I had broken it for sure. The pain was so bad that I blacked out for a second, but I went back into the game a few minutes later. I got hit so hard there that theres this big dent in the bone, and the skin right over the dent is completely numb. Kinda weird.

Worst ive had wasent playing soccer. Broken both legs (one at a time tho) Worst ive seen both this year on my club team. My buddy beat a man dribbled past him the man he beat was mad and chased after him and two footed him in the back of the legs broke his leg clean through. He was screaming every cus word i know i would give him an 10 on pain and the first game of the season our forward got nailed in the back of the knee. ya the other guy "was" going for the ball. Another broken leg clean through. Neither of the guys that kicked got carded for either.

my first game back from my red card, this kid goes and slide tackles me cleat up right in the ankle. i hear a wierd sound and go down in pain. the swelling was about the size of a baseball. never found out what that wierd sound was though. was out for a week then played in a tournament and it swelled up again to about the size of a tennis ball. that was he end of my season. about a month later, which is now, still swells up from time to time when i do volleys btu other wise its fine.
a girl for my highschool varsity team, the goalkeeper, was coming out to grab the ball but the player was about to shoot it full force. the keeper gets in right in the head, she had to go in for surgery, suffered some major head problems. cant play soccer anymore and i dont even know if she can even go to school anymore. id have to say that is the worst thing that i have ever seen. it was for larkin high school, if anyone has heard about this.

i got an over-head kick in the face as i tried to head the ball away. i got punched in the head by a goalie while i was in the process of scoring and i have recieved numerous low drives in the stomach and "considerably more sensitive" areas. apart from that, no real damage.

For sheer grit, I refereed a match with a GK who was completely poleaxed by an attacker while he was collecting the ball - in hard, studs up, no balll, easiest sendoff I've ever had. The keeper kept telling the trainer to hurry up and put a splint on it so he could keep playing, and he finished the match making another 3 brilliant saves.
I found out later that he'd broken his shin in 4 seperate places.

I've had a compound fracture of both the tibia and fibula. I was on crutches for 6 months, had a skin graft and have got a steel rod from my just below my knee to my ankle. My leg now looks like it has been bitten by a shark. Which is exactly what I tell the birds when they ask.

Head to head collison between a defender and a forward resulted in a broken cheek and concussion for the defender. I was about thrity yards away and it sunded like a baloon popped...guy was never the same after that
Also, blew out my ACL (due to a two footed tackle to the knee) Funny thing was I completed the game and thought it was just a bad knock. next morning my knee was the size of a watermelon and hurt like a muther. The painful part was the surgery. This was in 1981, pre scope surgery . They day after the surgery was probably the most painful thing that ever happened to me

The worst injury i've heard about is not from playing football directly but from watching a final at wembley. As the said person was celebrating a final win by climbing one of the flag posts he slid down the pole catching and ripping out one of his nuts.

Broken legs and caved in faces.
Worst injuries I ever saw was when i played pointy concussions that winded up in deaths. One on my team and one on the opponents team.

A few years back a goalie slid into back netting on a save, and the spike holding down the netting pierced his side, and had him pinned to the ground. He couldn't be moved for quite a while, as medical personal tried to figure out best method of extraction. I don't recall which league (either American minor leagues or Europe, but I believe the former)...
The keeper for the 1986 WC winning Argentina Pompido was his name or something like that.
The goals had nails on the frame to hold the nets to the goal. In practice he was wearing his wedding ring and it got caught on one of the nails and took his finger off.

I must admit this a pretty sick thread lol Although at the time it's not funny at the time when it happens to You, but after you don't mind telling the stories, gives you something to talk bout.
One thing i did not so long ago in a game was get kicked studs up in the face, it wasn't intentional because i slid in low and the player jumped over me and kind of kicked the ball at the same time and his foot followed through and went straight into my face cutting me quite severely in like 10 different places and i had this huge lump on my forehead and had to go to hospital completely covered in blood. Looked really cool though! I think blood makes everything so much more dramatic and cool lol

I played on a co-ed Youth team once and I girl I knew just shattered her elbow. I mean, the x-rays just looked like a mirror that had been hit with a baseball bat!

Bad injuries?
As a youth on a coed team, I ran straight into a girl with both of us at a full-on sprint. I got the wind knocked out of me, but she cracked a couple of ribs...
A few years later, I jumped for a header and banged heads with another player. I got a large bump and a headache, he went to the hospital with a very nearly severed tongue (it was hanging by a thread...)
Finally, I've blown out both my ankles. I did the left one as a kid trying to do a bicycle kick, but had never had any problem with rolling the right one until last September. Pretty much as mentioned earlier in this thread, I planted my foot while cutting, found a couple inche hole in the ground, and heard a big pop. Blinding pain, followed by a softball size ankle. Refused to go to the ER until the next day, when the entire thing continued to swell, and turned a dark purple (basically most of my foot did)...
It wound up being a torn anterior tarofibular ligament, as well as a torn calcanofibular ligament. Crutches for a few weeks and 6 months of rehab. If I wrap it tightly today, I seem to be able to play just as well as I could before....

Rite ive got 2 for ya. When i was playin 4 a pro club we went 2 a tournament. My mate (rite winger) was dribblin down the wing, this guy slide tackled him. So now ur finking 'so what he got tackled big wup'. Well this guy was dribblin pretty fast wen he got slide tackled so he did a half somersalt and landed on his collarbone snappin it instantly. Also here is another rinjury but this time involvin me. It was the last month of skool. At dinner i fort id go go play some footie wiv my mates on the astro. Anyway the game is tied 2-2 in the last minutes and my team had just given away a corner. I was on the edge of the box markin my opposite number. Anyway the corner was like sumthing out of fifa 2004 pushing and pulling evrywhere. Then evry thing jst went slo-mo as the corner was driven in. Itwas flicked on at the front post and the guy i marking was going for an alan shearer header. I nudged him and he missed the ball . The ball feel to me and i broke away. it was 2 on 1. The first defender slid (on astro remember) but i was 2 fast 4 him. Then out of absolutley nowehere the last defender completly body checked me ice-hockey style. I was flung into the air and he went down. After cumin round i found i had a twisted ankle and a dislocated shoulder. I was lucky. The guy who slid 4 me cut his leg open and the guy who body checked me had a shattered knee and a broken arm. This was 2003 btw.

The worst injury I ever saw was when we were playing on a really wet and muddy field when a slide tackle went wrong. Our player slid and the other player's ankle and below) got caught in the mud. His body kept going forward but his foot didn't. It twisted all the way around after it was dislocated, basically everything was so damaged that only his skin and maybe the achilles was keeping his foot attached to his body. I am guessing that he was in a lot of pain as we was screaming and swearing a lot. I have seen other injuries when the bone comes out of the leg but this one got me a lot worse for some reason.

re-starting an old thread,
Worst injury I had was when a English Pippo Inzaghi and me collided on a 50-50 ball 20 minutes into a sunday league game. I got to the ball first but he managed to "leave his foot" and kicked me in the back near the kidney area. I spent the remainder of the game on my stomach watching the game from the sideline. I should have gone to the doctors but chose to spend the remaining week hobbling about the place until the pain subsided.

I haven't actually had any injuries apart from tight muscles. I have seen a couple. Our goalie got annoyed and punched the post broke his wrist and hans lol. My mate dislocated his knee but kept on playing and then had his nose broken 5 mins later so came off. I went down the park and my mates where having a kick about and my mate had a fit (he has epilepsy) it was so horrible.
