I'd believe that when the ink is dry. Judas does have a history of misleading fans in regard to contract extensions.

Come on, Sol...you North London guy! I too will believe it when I see the dry ink.

Comme,
Sounds like a bunch of sourgrapes....still.

Agreed, I know this sounds like a knee jerk reaction, but if he hasn't signed by the middle of August I think we should sell him, we can't let him do what he did to Tottenham again. Same applies with Edu, although im pretty sure he will sign in the next ten days....... ;)

True, which is why I never trust Sol, he has one thing on his mind and that is success.

I might be wrong here, but before he moved to Arsenal, im sure he said an ambition of his was to play in Italy for one of the top clubs (Juve?), so I don't trust him. I also don't fully beieve the story about the injury. Simply because when players have been injured before, they are always taken to Austria and looked after at the training ground as Arsenal have take Gary Lewin and his brother out there. So why was Campbell sent home..... My opinion there is something more to that.

Our man has been stalling over a new long-term contract because we are reported to be offering considerably less than his previous deal, which earns him about 100k a week.
No wonder he was stalling.. I mean, a guys gotta eat.. ;)

I don't dispute that it sounds like sour grapes. I hate the man and hope he does walk out on you.

However, it can't be denied that he has in the past assured fans that he wanted to stay at a club only then to walk out.

Also rick, even if you wanted to sell him I doubt he would allow it. In fairness to Campbell we accepted offers for him from Manchester United a year before he joined you. Campbell refused to go, the man knows his own worth.

Sol also has been a huge part of our success, so why would he want to bolt? Correct me if I'm wrong, but he didn't win any trophies with THFC. If I'm wrong please tell me, I will gladly apologize. I know I'm suppose to HATE Spurs supporters, but I really try not to hate anyone....not healthy.

This will sound pathetic but Sol did actually win a trophy with us - the 1999 Worthington Cup.

With you he has won two titles and two FA cups. Clearly he has been very successful with you (which is his prime factor despite some suggesting it was money) but it depends whether he wants to win the CL or not- as is the case with Vieira, he probably thinks he would have a better chance elsewhere.

Full marks for your honesty, comme. I agree with you, but just have a sneaky suspicion that Sol wants to finish his career in England and hopefully with The Arsenal.

no offence but walking out on spurs to join a succesful club makes me feel sol has more sense than paddy. paddy is just being silly thinking hes going to go all the way with a bunch of over rated, past their sell by date players.

i won't argue this, as none of us really know sol's primary motivation. but i wouldn't take it at face value, either.

the fact is, that if a player plays out his contract, without re-upping, he's free to test the market on a bosman. that means a club can sign him without having to pay a transfer fee to anyone but the player, himself. sure, they won't actually pay sol a transfer fee, but they'll be able to pay him higher wages without raising their overall investment. that's why arsenal paid him such high wages on his initial contract - they were in essense paying the transfer fee to sol, himself.

i wouldn't for a moment have the slightest degree of faith that sol campbell's gonna re-sign until the ink's dry - regardless of the arse's prospects for winning the champions' league or anything else. worse, still, if (when) you try to sell him on (which i surely would), there remains the fact that, unless he renegotiates a contract with his new club (not likely if, in fact, he is determined to go bosman), his new club is going to know that they're only getting him for a year, without an advantage in securing him for the future, and they're not going to be inclined to offer the type of transfer fee that would usually accompany a player of sol's calibre.

in reality, there is no difference between this dynamic and what regularly occurs in american baseball - free agency. i expect we'll see more and more of in in the football world in days to come. but the big difference is that in baseball, a player comes out and says, "i'm going to play out my contract and test the market." what spurs got from sol campbell was duplicity, and ultimately, the shaft. this - more than the club to which he went - is why most spurs fans find sol campbell reprehensilbe.

it's also why, if i were a gooner, i wouldn't give a moment's thought to what trophies we've won, or stand to win, in determining sol's motivations. you guys need either his signature now, or to move him now. the longer you wait, the less his transfer will be worth. i suspect that wenger and dein know what they're dealing with. your club is admittedly pretty darn well-run.

just a fair shout, mate.

on the other hand, you're more than welcome to take mr campbell's word at face value - if he says he'll sign later, i'm sure he will. after all, he's arse through and through, right?
